Default Fire systems -- what size for a 996?

I've done the search and read the posts, but I didn't see anything that addressed what is the appropriate size system for any specific car. Any advice on what is the appropriate system for a 996? Honestly, I'm more concerned about installing something that allows me time to get out of the car than anything else. Is a 2.3 liter, three nozzle AFFF sufficient? Do I need a four nozzle or six nozzle setup? As with everything else in building this car, I don't have a clue.

What class will you race in? When I did mine, I was faced with maintaining weight and actually needed to add weight to the car... Considering the bottle is mounted right where you want weight anyway, why not go ahead an go large. If light weight is a concern, all of this is out the window...

Default Fire system size

I would determine how many zones you want to cover in the car first. For example, engine and driver or engine/driver/fuel cell.

The ESS 2.3 liter system is a 2-zone system (and equals a 5 lb halon system). It comes with 3 nozzles and ESS recommends installing two on the engine bay and one on the driver. The 5.0 system is a 3-zone system (recommend two on engine, one on driver, one on fuel cell - it equals a 10 lb Halon system). It comes with 4 nozzles but can be upgraded to 6 nozzles.

Most fires start in the engine compartment so if you have adequate coverage in that area, it's a great start.

You can also download the ESS installation manual from their website. It talks a little about where to install the nozzles:

http://www.essfire.com/support.php

Good idea to confirm the spray pattern on the nozzles too. If the nozzle only covers a small area, you'll need more per zone. The ESS nozzles provide 180 degrees of spray zone coverage per nozzle. They recommend overlapping the nozzle sprays over the entire engine bay by angling the slits of the nozzles toward each other.

Get the biggest, reasonably priced, one you can. I got a 5L(AFFF) FireSense for a little under $300 from PST. It is a little heavy since it's a steel canister but meeting minimum weight is not a problem for me.

Personally I'm a fan of the foam ones, not the Halon ones.

Wow from fire systems to I'd hit it in six posts. That's got to be close to the record for thread degeneration.

I just had a customer install two of these systems and I happened to race a car with one in it last week. It has six nozzles so there is lots of coverage.

For 300 bucks you can't beat the price. If you have the room and a little extra weight allowance (it's steel) I would go with this one. I'm always a fan of a little bit more can't hurt. In the formula car I am space limited so I can't use a system that is this large.
