I'm confused. Are talking guys talking diameter or width? How does a tire width change gearing?

It doesn't as far as I know. You can also increase width without increasing diameter by going to a shorter aspect ratio. In fact when I made my change I was able to DECREASE diameter, which was a good thing in my case. I think Viking is faced with having to make that trade-off in the options he is looking at but it is certainly not a universal problem when increasing width.

Exactly. With the options available we will go smaller on both width and diameter. Both will make the car faster, just in different ways, or maybe I should say for different reasons.
