Holy ****. I take one night off of RL and end up missing this...

<ahem> (tapping microphone) I'd like to go one record as saying that VR is one of the most knowledgeable and most helpful ******** I've ever met.

And I agree that folks that have never met him in person just don't get VR. He goes way out of his way to help people on and off the track. And too many people on RL just look for **** to get offended at.

I've known VR since he started showing up at TX track events in '02, we've run together many, many times. I agree with the a-hole part, but he's really not that helpful. That damn high-pitched screaming!

Seriously, if you haven't met Dave, you really don't know him. As for being offended, it's waaaay too PC everywhere these days, not just RL. I hear too many people getting offended by South Park, Chapelle, Mencia and the like. VR is VR, put him on Ignore, I'm certain that his feelings would be hurt....

Some of the internet's most notorious pests are often defended as being, "a great guy in person." Why is it that most "great guys in person" are also great guys in forum life? Do some go through a metamorphosis? Or is it a lack of emoticon training?

Anyone who can consistently pick the best avatars on the web is good.

The difference is that I don't view VR as an internet pest. That's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary. He has a razor sharp sense of humor and anyone on the receiving end of it may be caught off guard if they don't know him or if they are thin skinned. But I've never known him to be deliberately mean or malicious to anyone, even online. Relentless with the jabs, yes. But hell, I've taken more online jabs from deep_uv than VR and I still let deep_uv buy me a beer now and then.

Hey, with deep_uv, I'd make sure to run that temperature check on that beer...
