Default VIR Club Race "DE Race" August 8-10- who's going?

"DE Race" Disclaimer: This is a PCA Drivers Education event that is being held simultaneously with the Zone 2 club race. It is not a race, not an officially timed event, and all descriptions calling it a race are "tongue-in cheek"/ sarcastic, facetious.

"That being said", whose going? We got Dell, TedA, and Rick.

In addition, being the "D.E. Race" chair, what do you guys think about passing zones. We are officially verboten from "anywhere with a point by". I was thinking 3-4, bridge straight, back straight, front straight for the first day since we have several drivers who have never driven VIR. Then open 2-3 and 10-11 on Saturday, and 15-16 on Sunday. Thoughts? 8-9? 17-17a?

OK...first, look at the list of drovers (and associated vehicles)... you and me are the ones who are going to be passed, so let's keep this real so we don't get props in a future "farm use" thread complete with video. Your proposed zones for Friday should also include 2-3 and probably 10-11.

This is advanced drivers only right? Passing should be allowed anywhere the wheels are straight, no passing in corners. This is how black/red in my region runs. Assuming no one lied on their resume, shouldnt' be an issue for anyone.

Hey wait-a-second, I get to claim the most passed trophy at this event with the Miata, which I sometimes refer to as the red roving chicane. But as slow as I sometimes feel around all those GT3s, I even found that 944 "Farm Use" car dangerously slow. Slow in the corners, slow down the straights, slow to give the point-byes.

Passing Zones: include 2-3 & 10-11 on Friday; 3-4 & 15-16 on Sat & Sun. I don't know about doing one in Hog Pin or the up hill esses; tires will likely be quite greasy, since the forecast looks like we're in for a heat wave.... We and the cars may be dying from heat prostration.

Did we actually allow a Miata in? Why'd we do that?

Ted, there appears to be a pretty good mix. In addition to GT3s, a GT2, etc., there are several early 911s and 944s. Plus, with only 30 cars, there should be lots of clear track. Stage the new cars first and older, lower hp cars later, and all should have lots of clear track time. Kopp, Mad Mel, you and I should try running together.

As of now, I'm going to be on track. I'll be there regardless, but not sure if I will have a car at this point.

That's ok Don, most everybody thinks I am going cup. While it is on the list, the chances are slim. I'm trying to minimize my financial risk on track and another GT3 isn't the right way
