Breaking News on the HPDE Car Insurance Front
Yeah, it's a press release. And yeah, I'm a friend of Mark Dadgar's (justracing.com, motorsportsreg.com, Pukka Software) for several years now. But if it's a product you're interested in, it's worth a look:

I just signed up for their coverage last night for the RTR event at Watkins Glen. The process is easy. The only thing to keep in mind is when you put your value, that is before the modifications to your car. This isn't evident until after you purchase the insurance.

It does look like the same program. What I like about what I read about it so far, is if someone else is driving your car - it's covered!

But you're right, the proof is in the pudding.
Think about how many people would sign up (many), and how many people actually wreck their cars to the point where they need to make an insurance claim. The ratio would seem to be quite profitable.
Especially considering the deductible
For example:
(please correct me if my math doesn't make sense, it's not my strength)
Average car value: $30,000
Premium: $183
Deductible if a car is totaled totaled (5%): $1500
So, it would cost them ~28000 to replace a totaled car
They would make that money if they insured ~16-17 people
So basically one wrecked car for every twenty insured and they still make money. I think.

I'm the insurance guy behind this program - Ryan Staub. We've seen other DE options come and go - the majority of options out there cater to the "extreme" enthusiast that participates in 8+ events each year. Our program was designed around the typical DE enthusiast - those that participate in less than 7 events each year. We hope that the single-event coverage will be appealing and easier to justify (small premium per event vs. large annual premium) for the DE community.

Great! I'll be going with this program when my current policy expires.
Question:
Does the rate change based on the # of days for the event, ie: 1 day vs 2 day vs 3 day?

Guys - Note that Ryan has an SCCA background, so he knows this sport very well. Which is big plus for me.

Hi Ryan,
Looks like an appealing service. It would be even more appealing if you became a site sponsor
It's generally frowned upon when non-sponsors (and particularly non-members) promote stuff.
Having said that.... Welcome!
There's plenty of potential business on Rennlist

Seems like a good idea for piece of mind. Clearly for it to work it must be profitable. The idea is smart for one event coverage. This is perfect for guys with high dollar cars that like to do the occasional DE. Really once you get to the point of running many many DE's a year you should switch to something you can afford to write off. But for those with nice cars that want to experience the track they can and not have the fear of losing a 100k GT3 and being out 100k.

What did Ryan "promote"? The original post wasn't even directly about Ryan's company, but was about a service offered by motorsportsreg.com. A question was brought up on Rennlist, and he answered it. I too believe in the "be a sponsor or don't PROMOTE your wares here" rules. I don't believe it applies here.

I'm not sure what question he answered though. He is the guy behind the insurance program motorsportsreg signed up with, and he just gave a few lines about their intentions, target audience and some contact information, which is great.
He did the same thing in a related thread a couple weeks ago.
I suppose it's not technically promoting; it would just be great for Ryan to become a sponsor, or at least a member. He'd be a valuable member of the group.

I'm all for being a community of involved individuals and welcome Ryan with open arms. I'm also pretty psyched to have that service and have him around to answer questions.
