The only thing I can think of is that the new GT3 will have a 4.0 L engine, and that Porsche will undergo homologation soon.
There might be a type of "dispensation" given for motors undergoing "testing".

Hopefully it's not the same rule book that BMW used a few years ago to run V8 M3s to win the IMSA (or PSR, ALMS, or whatever it was at the time) championship, even though they didn't have any such homologated street car (and never intended to build one). IIRC, BMW dropped out of the series the next season ...
