Excursion Diesel - Towing Questions

Just bought an '04 Excursion Diesel
!!!
Now I have a few towing questions for those of you that run this rig. I have a 24' Thule enclosed V-nose trailer. Total weight ~7,500 lbs with car.
1. Are any suspension upgrades are encouraged (uprated shocks, air bags, etc.)?
2. Do you recommend a weight distributing hitch (with or without sway control)?
3. Anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks!

I have an 05 Excursion Diesel and the best suspension mod bar none is adding air bags to the rear. I tow a 24 foot V nose enclosed trailer similar to yours loaded and maybe weighs even more. I don't use any type of leveling hitch or sway controll and it pulls better than any trailer I have ever owned. The better hitches will only make it better but may be overkill for that truck. With out the air bags I noticed more rear end sag and porpouseing and not its rock stable. Spend the time getting your toung weight right as well.

Air bags and a Hellwig rear sway bar are a must.(Sways may be standard on the diesel, I have a gasser) I also added a extra leaf to leaf spring pack to increase tounge weight. I tried to tow without the WD hitch and did not like the sway I got passing semi's. The truck tows like a dream with the WD hitch.
Good info on the trucks and towing on www.ford-truck.com. Lots of guys over there pulling monster campers

Good choise!
I pulled a 28ft trailer and put 140K miles on my '01, the only modification I put on is the manual airbags, so you can level the truck with an air compressor if you are a bit nose heavy in the trailer.
The truck is so heavy you need nothing else besides good trailer brakes.
When stopping, be carefull tolet the truck roll, as the rotors seem to warp easily.
Very good trucks, it has run 200K miles with the Superchip on tow mode.
Sold it with 140K, replaced only the fuel pump, the next owner tows a 28 footer also and he put an alternator and oil pump in, it now has 200K miles on it, no problems.

Rear sway bar if your truck doesn't have it. I've done tens of thousands of tow miles on mine without air bags so I'd say they are not needed.
The only other mod I did was to change to Bilstein shocks.
