Default Custom Valved Shocks for 911 - Seeking Advice

I am seeking advice regarding custom valved shocks for my 88 911 track car that is for club and vintage racing.

I have or am in the process of acquiring a variety of suspension pieces, including:

-Elephant Racing 31mm hollow torsion bars for the rear
-Elephant Racing 23mm hollow torsion bars for the front

-Smart Racing Products 31mm front sway bar
-Smart Racing Products 27mm rear sway bar

I am going to be acquiring four new Bilsteins for the car. Does anybody have any experience or advice regarding the following:

- Smart Racing Products "F30" and "R30 custom valving, which is indicated for "Competition"
- Smart Racing Products "F40" and "R40" custom valving, which is indicated for "GT" cars
- Elephant Racing's custom track only custom valving.

I would appreciate any and all advice.

Mark

Why not just give Smart all your information and go with what they recommend?

I don't know if Smart is truly a shock shop. If not, I would suggest going to someone who really specializes in Shocks - buy from them and let them valve the shocks based on the specs you give them, and get the dyno sheets. If Smart can do that, then give them the info.

I am a bit confused though by your signature. Do you work for Smart or is that a reference to using their stuff?

Mark,

Thank you for the advice. I also posted on the 911 forum and the answers are such that it seems I am going to have to do what you suggest.

As for my signature, I am not associated with Smart. That was typo. I failed to delete that material when I was moving some text around in my post.

Mark,

I have an '80 911SC and intalled the same t-bars last winter. I have Weltmeister 22 mm ARBs front and rear, but will switch to the Smart ARBs when I can afford it. I sent my Bilstein shocks and strut inserts to Bilstein for revalving. I do not think there is a specific designation like F30 or R40 from them. I gave them my corner weights and t-bar sizes and they valved them for my car. I am happy with the setup, but do not have anything else to compare it to.

Do a search on Jim Buckley and Buckley Racing. He's located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and is a master with these cars. They'll answer your questions.

Thanks for the input thus far. I have learned I could put a great Moton system on my car. Unfortunately, that is beyond my budget. It has been suggested to me that another option at about half the price would be to run custom valved Bilsteins on the front and JRZ double adjustables on the back. More costly than 4 custom valved Bilsteins, but I am told a better set up. It appears to be a legal set up for PCA. Any comments on that set up vs. going with custom valved Bilsteins all around?
