Default What's the best way to route a coiled PTT button cord?

I have my radio installed and everything but the PTT button wired. So far everything has come out nice but I'm not sure the best way to route the PTT coil cord.

What's the best way to route this cord from the wheel to the dash area? If it helps, there's about 8-10" of straight from the button to the coiling, then 8-10" of coil and it ends with another 8-10" of straight cord to the end where the plug is.

Thanks.

Chrisp

I've tried lots of ways and ruined lots of cords at around eighty bucks a pop.

The best solution I've found on a car similar to yours is to let the coiled portion hang down between my legs with the straight part attached just below the steering column. All other attempts have resulted with the cord getting tangled around the steering column or cowl and getting severed.

It doesn't look too "pro" but this set up has worked for a few years with no problem.

You'll love having radios as long as you've got someone knowledgeable on the other end. It's also fun to share frequencies with competitor/friends.

thanks. I was thinking of wrapping it around the column. Turn one way and it tightens on the column. Turn it the other way it unwinds.

can do but at this point there's not much more to see than a standard mid-year 911 interior with aftermarket wheel.

i'll post some in a few.

You ever try putting it on the shifter? I like it there as it prevents it from getting tangled up...

I put mine PTT on the shifter. No issues with the removable wheel, easy to reach, no cord issues.

i thought of putting it somewhere off the wheel but thought it would be a problem since you have to hold the button for the duration of the communication....and that's likely to last through a corner. it sure would be a lot easier though.

I've seen a lot of guys run them on their shifter. I personally don't like it there. For a wheel with quick disconnect I wouldn't wrap it around the column as it wouldn't make taking the wheel off easily. If you do put it on the wheel I'd route towards the passenger side so you can toss the wheel to the left and not get it hung up on the column.
