I was on the "Streets" track at Willow Springs today with the POC. BMW was on the big track along with a contingent of about 15 Mini's all without roll bars.
What's that saying... "those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it"....

Couple things. Chances are none of the mini drivers had time to add a roll bar between last weekend and this weekend. And those that dont frequent the net probably didnt find out at all unless someone told them at the track, but either way they are finding out the day of. And I think any of us would crawl through turn 9 rather than throw away the money spent on a track weekend.

The Mortality and serious injury rate @ DE's is few and far between, probably a better chance of getting hurt on the street and the guy in question had a rare failure happen on his car as well. So a worldwide panic for mini drivers is not going to happen.

So to pass judgement on people who may not have a clue or were too late to do anything about it, is a bit premature.

Those Minis were doing parade laps in memory of Joe Frey and not taking part in the DE. There are about 3 minis in the DE, one with a full cage, the other 2 I don't know, but that's what you saw today, a rememberance by the Mini club

Wanna911 you're absolutely correct; I was trying to emphasize a point. Hopefully more discussions about safety issues will blossom from this tragedy.

Pete I just saw all the Mini's staged in the lot. Had I known I would have joined them....

Really sad to hear about this. He must have been an interesting guy, tracking it at 75, he surely got the most out of life.

It's funny because I was riding in a car and looked over while on the back straight to Streets and noticed your color scheme right away and thought, "Hey that's that guy jrgordon from RL".

I went over during a break, but you were on track.

The best part is that hopefully due to the petition Joe's tragedy will be beneficial to the lives of others, which I'm sure both himself and his family would be happy to know.

I really hope they make changes accordingly. (track and drivers)

Just got back from Willow Springs and all went well, some offs, but no roll overs or worse, even with the club racers.

Rumor has it that the track will be repaved in Dec. Whether that makes the bumps smoother or they actually smooth out the bumps is anyone guess, but hopefully that do something about the run offs. I've got to say that everytime I went through turn 9 I thought about what happened last weekend.
