Default Precautions When Drilling Lead.

I'm going to drill 4 holes through the lead ballast in the passenger floor board to mount my Coolshirt cooler. Only available location.

Any precautions I should take beside rubber gloves and a particle mask?

Thanks for the help.

As long as you are not creating vapour, (bad drilling technique) you will have no problems with metallic lead.

It is just lead, not plutonium. For adults the danger is far less than for kids. Unless you work with it all day and have an OCD of putting your fingers in your mouth you will be fine. One common source of lead contamination in adults is lead from wine bottle foil caps. If the bottle has a lead foil cap wipe the bottle neck well before uncorking. Shiny lead is not the big problem it is the oxides of lead that are most often absorbed.

All the concerns about lead had me more cautious than necessary. I like the idea of grease as a particle keeper.

Me with a drill in my hand? You guys can't see the forest for the trees. I'm going to be driving that car on the same track as many of you some day. How do you like them apples? Comforting as a warm bed on a cold night?

Just make sure that you have the cappucino maker fired up before you attempt anything else.
