Hey guys,

Anyone know if there is a schedule of the other races (non F1) going on during the Canadian Montreal F1 weekend (ie. GP2, GT3 Cup)?

Will be there starting Thurs. and would like to get the most for my $$.

I will not be there this year, but in past years they have had small bore formula cars, the star Mazda cars and the Ferrari Challenge cars. The Ferraris are the most fun as most of those guys do not know how to drive and crash them with alarming regularity.

There is nothing on Thursday... although Thursday evening is absolutely the right evening to go on St-Laurent street to do bird watching . Friday and Saturday evenings are not bad either for ornithology.

Now, about racing...

IMSA and the Ferrari Challenge have been providing support races in the last couple of years. Same this year except that in addition of FMazda and FBMW-Americas (both are IMSA) you will get to see GT3 Cups (IMSA Michelin cup) as well. Will be fun to see lap times of F-Challenge cars and GT3 cups.

Friday is practice for F1 and practice/qual for support series
Saturday is the busiest day with F1 quals and at least 3 support races
Sunday has recently been only about F1, with warm up at 10am and the race at 1.

It's not there yet but if you go to www.imsaracing.net, scroll down to IMSA SANCTIONED SERIES INFORMATION (red banner) and click on NEXT EVENTS under IMSA Challenge you will find all the documents for the drivers including a very detailed schedule. The info for the Miller race is still there now but I'm sure the Montreal info will be there next week.

Rounds 3 and 4 of the Formula BMW series are being run at Montreal:

They are also running at Interlagos for the last F1 race.

Can't imagine being a 14 year old kid and running on the same track and being in the same paddock as the F1 drivers.

That is where Fernando Alonso finds all his #2 drivers so they don't challenge his superior #1 driver status within the team.

It's interesting to see how few kids at a karting event actually like/admire Alonso.
Besides, he'll be done with Renault soon and off to his next PMS induced career move.

GT3 Cups!? No way! That would be awesome.

Might rub the Ferrari Challenge people the wrong way. First you watch racers in the GT3s drive hard then there would be the glorious destruction derby that is Ferrari Challenge. The race in Montreal always claims a few cars as the walls are closer than at other venues.

Not so sure I agree. While I enjoyed watching the GT3 Cup races at Indy almost as much as the F1 race itself, those guys were not afraid to bend some sheet metal. You could always count on the Super Cup guys for at least one big incident. However, I do agree the cup pilots seem to be much more skilled than their Ferrari Challenge counterparts.

Cup drivers are pros, paid to win. CHallenge drivers are amateurs although there have been some outstanding ones, including the 2 times North American champion Emmanual Anassis, local boy and PCA Instructor.

From the races I've attended at Indy, the Cup and Challenge drivers both seem to be more prone to getting together during the 1st couple races of the weekend. The 2nd races tends to be cleaner.

The FBMW races at Indy were always entertaining as well.

Should be good to see the IMSA Challenge drivers out there on circuit. I have a friend that runs a few of the races and I have not had a chance to see him race yet. The past few years I have gone it has been interesting to watch the Challenge drivers. They have some serious support crews and access to resources for amateurs. Cash talks. I think this year they may need to stop comparing their Patek watches and keep an eye for the IMSA guys. They have some cojones.

Btw, if you get a chance hit the "Bud Tent" in the middle of the track to check out some of the local young ladies hired to dance to Canadians playing (sometimes poorly) American "stripper music." Talent level is quite high. Enjoy the races and the sights.
