Have factory built and personally maint. and home built home maint. Except for the cage on the SPec Box. Even do own tires and alignments..Like others have said its the only sain way to keep this affordable.

You have your own tire mounting equipment, corner balancing scales, etc...?

I'm like a couple of the others in that I have some in each category, but my preference is self build/maintain.

The yellow car I got from Kim was 100% done by Steve Weiner, and it's as close to a perfect car as you'll find. Shows the value of professional guidance and assembly. I'm the lucky beneficiary.

The Radical, obviously bought as a complete car. No one has touched it for anything. Yes, that includes mounting tires and alignment/corner balance......I have all that equipment.

The Spec Miata was this on-a-whim purchase when I was so buried in my one business I thought all I would be able to do a couple of years ago was roll the car off the trailer and go. Uh huh. It was professionally built, top to bottom, and another example of you get what you pay for. That I absolutely, totally, and completely suck driving it is NOT about the car.

The RS Clone/PRC Spec Racer was restored by my cousin who did the 910. I just took it off his hands when he needed cash for a lathe and mill, and had Tony Colicchio throw in a cage. Everything else I did. It needs paint now, and I HATE painting. And bodywork.

Everything else before that I pretty much did 100%. I've never run a car prior to that, Porsche anyway, that I did not do the engine/transmission/safety/suspension/bodywork/paint. Were things compromised? Yes. But I know that if something falls off, it's on me.

Self build and 100% maintain including alignments, corner balancing and tires. On the little pokey one I am driving now I cut out the rust, rebuilt the brakes, motor, trans, suspension all around, steering rack axles, all wheel bearings, generator, added fire suppression, seats and long ago added a store bought roll bar that I had to cut the feet off and redo to make it work as I wanted. I am building a 73RSR look GT car bare metal out from a junker. Have lift, tire mounting and balancing machines, do all my own cage and other fab work.

Give me the money and I will gladly let a shop do the work.
Home shop has improved since the avatar was taken.

I am not ashamed to admit my car is a combination of both professional shop work and DIY efforts. Although as the car has evolved and I have grown, my share of the work has certainly increased. I am really in awe of the guys who live around me that do all their own work (Tony K, Kurt, Jerome, etc..)

3 T's apply to me as well.

Cage and original alignment farmed out. Everything else has been home shadetree work.

The folk at Jerry Woods built my car and do most of the work. While I'm capable of doing some stuff, I seldom have the time. There is no way I could have built the car, the amount of fabrication that went into it was way beyond DIY.

Originally built by Mark Anderson of 928 International. I bought it as a rolling chassis and it was brought back to life by David Moore of Moorespeed. Once he worked his magic making it a running car again I took it to a 928 specialist (ok he works on all kinds of P-cars but he owns and has a soft spot for 928's!) Matt at TPWS. Both are located here in Austin, TX. My on track help that keeps me going through out the weekends (though now that we have a few events on it the issues have become less and less) is John Teague of Thunder Motorsports (I think that is what his company is called now anyway...)!

I do all the work on it that I can but being in a wheelchair really limits how much I can actually do...I can't even REACH most of the car, let alone work on it!

So far, I have done all the work myself. I have rebuilt the motor, and replaced the clutch. When it comes time to upgrade the suspension, I'll buy a scale, and alignment tools. I bought this car with the idea that I would be able to do the work myself, it's been a lot of fun. Of course, the dangerous slide has started, I have an architect making drawings for two new garages on the property. One of which, will strictly be the Porsche house with a lift and all the room I need to fabricate and build.
