A few pics from Grand-Am Rolex @ VIR
Had a great time at VIR this past weekend watching the Grand-Am Rolex race. Of course, I have to sneak in a few pics of me with the little boy attending his first race
If you have any pics to add, please post away!!!
Enjoy!

Thanks Eddie. I missed last year and totally regretted it! I went on Saturday and Sunday and couldn't get enough of it. It really is awesome to see the top drivers make work of our home track and post the number they are posting. The DP cars would in the mid 1:40's and the top GT cars were in the mid 1:50's. Qualifying for pole was 1:43.1 in the DP cars (Telmex 01) and 1:53.4 in the GT class (Farnbacher 87). Blazin fast!
One thing I noticed is that there is very little disparity in times from the top DP guys to the bottom but in the GT class, the top guys really are by far leaps and bounds ahead of the bottom drivers. For example, there was only a 5 second gap from first to last in the DP yet over 11 seconds from top to bottom (71 Synergy Car) in the GT class (and they were both GT3 Cups!).

I was there for practice on Saturday. Spent most of the time in the area where your pics were taken between NASCAR Bend and Left Hook. Also wandered around the paddock for a good while. One thing that did leave a lasting impression on me was watching the DP guys go up the climbing esses. If you blinked you missed them. I swear it looked like a video game. Unbelievable!!
I took about 100 pictures. I will try to sort thru them and post a ittle later.

Dell,
Nice pics. Wish we had been there, but it just didn't work this year. It was tough, as this is the first year in quite a few that we were not crewing for TRG at VIR.
No, I am not giving away the final results, but I supposed you watched the incredible performance put in by Spencer Pumpelly for TRG. All I can say is that in spite of the final results, it was like watching a shark swimming through minnows.

I had to keep watching the timing loop streaming on the Grand Am website from my phone since there is really NO WAY to know who is doing what during the race. My only complaint about the entire event and it really isn't a complaint but rather a suggestion to improve the fan experience is to do like golf tourneys were they have scoreboards located on places throughout the course so fans can see where the cars are in relation to the others. Heck, maybe even some video boards

I've never seen a rental setup for them. However they are so helpful at a race like that. Last year the 6 hour race at VIR was impossible to watch without one.

The icards are pretty handy and integrate with an old gameboy if you have one in a closet. It's more portable than the pcmcia + laptop version
It was really nice to have a portable 'score card' while watching the action. It is, however, just the rudimentary data - position, car #, and the ability to toggle between last lap time and time behind the leader.

After I sort thru my pics I will post a few. I love watching these races in person, so much more excitement. Dell, nice spot, I was actually just around the corner and sligthly up the hill. You could see so much from there.
