Spec Boxsters at Buttonwillow this weekend....
Nor Cal versus So Cal....
I ran Saturday at BW with Bill Pickering and Kenny Gorman from the bay area, and Mark Foley from So Cal. Brad Roberts was there too and I think I can safely say we all had a blast. I couldn't stay for Sunday due to a family committment, but I'm sure we'll get a full report from the survivors when they get back home. Additionally they took some group photos which I can't wait to see.
The other drivers in Saturday's race were for the most part competent and qualified with one exception. There was this NASCAR type car that went off on the very first turn and almost nailed Mark's green car. He then proceeded to go 4 off twice during the race, both times in front of me. Unfortunately he thought it was prudent to keep his foot in the gas and came back on course without any concern for the other cars around him. Remarkably nobody collected him though both Mark and I let the organizers know this guy was unsafe and would eventually hurt somone.
Mark finished first among the Spec Boxster's and I was second but just barely. Kenny G. was on my bumper for the final few laps as I took a defensive line to keep him in check. We ran against three race prepared Vipers and two Ferraris along with a various assortment of other cars. All-in-all a great time and lots of fun to meet our Northern Cal racers. I look forward to racing with them again....
Let me state again that running BW in a CCW configuration is a hoot and really, really fun. We should definitely give it a whirl (so to speak)....
Left to right:
Mark, Kenny, JR, Doris & Bill....

too bad i had to miss it.
was the ferrari's a 355 and a 430 challenge? they are both track rats and live on track. not often seeing f cars on track that often.
one of the vipers is a blue comp coupe? sometimes it's really really fast, some times it's puttering around when i ran with it. i think it must have two drivers.

p.s. What the hell is in front of you in the last picture? It looks like a cross between a Rabbit and a Mail Jeep.

I think it was a GTI. We boxster guys were late to qualifyig and only got a few crowded laps so I was gridded behind a Spec Miata. It took a lap or two to get free and then we were off chasing the Vipers (right!).

It was the silver car on the last turn of the race unfortunately. He had been on my *** for the last few laps trying to find a way by me. He just carried a touch too much speed into the corner intending to get a jump out to the flag. I looked in my mirror and saw him slowly rotate into a complete 360 and backwards into the tire wall. Thankfully the car had slowed considerably before he hit the tires and the damage was limited....

It was Kenny's Silver Spec Boxster that went into the tire wall on the exit of turn 1. It was the cleanest tire contact I've ever seen. John and I got out of our cars next to the paddock entrance and by the time we walked over to check on him he was backing the car out of the tires on his own.
We put it up on our EZ Lift and other than a door dent that popped out by had and a few scratches on the rear bumper, you really can't tell that the car touched any tires. A pretty fortunate outcome. The next day Kenny qualified and came in 2nd in the ARC GT3 class I believe.

sorry to hear the new on kenny's new car.
but that's a good outcome (the little damage that is) as T1 (sunrise) in CCW is a bitch. u think there's a lot of room until you get there..........

Uh. yeah, that was me. I will post video so you can tell me all about my red mist ;-).
Driver ok, car ok. I was really really trying to catch John, but he's too good, and I am too inexperienced. It was a good lesson that I have thought hard about.
Sunday was better, good racing. Bill was flyin!
