Default Cool Shirt Install Help

I’m installing a Cool Shirt w/helmet blower and need some help.

Do all you 911 drivers place it on the floor in front of the passenger seat? It won’t fit anywhere else in my car and still be reasonably accessible. I, also, have a block of lead down there. Can I safely screw mount to this w/o through-bolting.

I assume I plumb the helmet air inlet hose to the exterior, right? Suggestions for location?

Any slick water line management/attachment systems out there?

Is an in-line fuse recommended?

Are there any quick release straps for holding the cooler to the mounting bracket? The stock strap are a royal PIA to remove.

Thanks for the help.

Hi, Randy,

I have my cooler mounted in the trunk. I used a Unibit to cut a hole to run the lines, and sheathed them in corrugated plastic tubing to prevent cuts or chafing. By mounting the cooler up front, I was able to shift a bit of weight to the nose of the car and keep the passenger footwell free for students.

I installed mine on the passenger floor board. I did through bolt it with fender washers. Are you using the aluminum mount they make? If not, a plastic battery tray from any auto parts place will work (what I used for $5). The straps are a painn, but I've gotten used to them.

There is no room in the truck of my car. The FS takes up any possible location.

The factory mounting tray came with the kit so that is what I'm using.
Do you think it would be OK to use screws to mount to the lead block? It is 2+ inches thick. Long bolts.

Personaly, I'd use the bolts. They don't have to be huge. Two 1/4'' bolts with fender washers will work.

Randy, can you move the lead under the passenger seat? That's where I have my lead and my cool shirt cooler in in the passenger footwell.

I put mine behind the driver seat. A PITA to remove etc but it is out of the way and not an issue since I run ballast here and remove ballast there depending on the series. It is jammed in there BTW.

I have cool air and it's in the floorboard. Have to take it out daily to replace the ice so keep that in mind. If I add weight, I'll add that under the cooler or in the footwell.

I just installed my cool shirt on the passengers side rear seat (removed the cushion). It fits pretty snug in there. I have reclinable/movable race seats, so it is not that difficult to get to. The harness strap is a serious PITA.

I mounted it with metal screws, but I drilled a 5th hole in the middle just to be on the safe side.

I'd use more than that(probably thicker too), the cooler can weigh 40lbs when full, think about what will happen with that in an accident. Although a splash of cold water might be refreshing and help put out any potential fires .

I'll be selling my (used once) Cool-shirt (non-hooded) shirt for 50% of new plus shipping. I bought the hooded version and wont be using it.

I strap mine into the passenger seat. It's convenient and has been crash tested at about 80 MPH.
