Well, there is a wide range of budgets that teams require for a season of FA, Atlantic Champioship Series as they are now called.

$600-700K for a podium capable car. We just had a great two day test at MSR Houston with 19 cars attending.

My lifelong best friend is Roger Penske's CFO and he said that Porsche basically gives Penske all the money he needs to win, pretty much at any cost. It's working...

Not that the Captain is hurting for money himself.

seriously though, for a company like porsche or audi, spending 20million-200million a year is absolutely logical for as many cars they can sell based on the lemans street cred...think about it- how many people considered audi a performance brand before they were winning with the R8 prototype in 2002? other than their old rally cars, I didn't even consider their techno-wizardry in the same league as porsche or ferrari...now they're one of the most respected marques in the world.

It's the same reason why Toyota is running nascar. Will porsche put a panamera in nascar in 2010?
