Default Question on Hawk brake pads

I am preparing an M3 (sorry not a Porsche) for track use, and purchased a new set of Hawk XP Plus pads. I plan to use these temporarily while still driving it a little on the street, and testing on the track. I was surprised to see that the inside pad was made of a different material than its companion outside pad. Anyone know why the material in these pads are different?

I've used several sets of these (different size, of course). I never saw any difference in pad materials, ever. I have never heard of this.

I have run HP+ for a couple years now on the 944 and prior to that on my Audi. The compounds are homogeneous for all the pads in the set... it does not vary inside to outside.
