Tire Sizes
What size front tires should I be able to fit on the front of an 86 911? I have 7x16 Fuchs and run RA1's. Some fender rolling is evident.
Everyone says I should put 225's on but the tire guy says they won't fit and the PO had 205's on all 3 sets of wheels.
I have 7x16 Fuchs and run RA1's.
Is there a reason I can't put on 225's? I was told that the suspension was narrower allowing for wider tires in 87-89 cars vs 84-86? I've also been told that's BS and to get 225's. I don't want to damage the car or worse.

225/50x15 will fit w/o too much difficulty. As mentioned far larger tires and wheels are routinely used for that application, though usually w/ wheels w/ a bit more (+) o/s
The issue is usually what to use in back w/ those fronts

Best would be to use a 225/45 x16 which wil give you an extra ~.5" of clearance over the 225/50x16

Ran 225's for many years on my SC (and earlier cars), plus a 225/50-16 RA1 on 7X16 is the spec front tire for the PRC Toyo Spec 911 series. Roll fenders? Sure.

As a follow up:
Is there a minimum ride height to allow the 225's to fit? I will be having the car corner balanced and the ride height adjusted before the first event and if there is a possibility that the tire could rub in hard cornering I'd rather see if 1/2" higher ride would make a difference. I could be thinking about it all wrong.

Near stock 83SC -- I run 235/40-17 on 8's and I know that 245s will work like others have suggested. I ran 225/50s on 7X16s for a long time. Only fender rolling and some negative camber. Rear not even close to a problem with 255/40-17s.

I may have this wrong and I haven't checked but I think stock class CR rules say the wheel size can only be 1" more than the largest stock wheel offered? Right? Wrong?
