Default Glove Recommendations

So what are the best racing gloves currently out there in the under $130 range?

My Simpson and GForce ones are looking for retirement (at least they look like they should be retired by now)......

I know they aren't in the $130 range, but if you can spare the extra dough, they are worth it. They are best glove I have ever tried. Great feel and great fitment.

In that range the glove I'd reccomend is the Oakley CarbonX Professional driving Glove. You get the external stitching, carbonx instead of nomex. They are as comfy as the OMP Top and Alpinestars Tech 1ZX.

Right now I'm using the Sparco Blizzards and they fit me very well but the external stitching is so nice that I'll be switching to the Oakleys when the sparcos wear out.

I have heard good things about the Oakleys and was considering them prior to my most recent purchase. Good luck finding the right pair.

So aside from comfort, fit, & grip, what does one look for in gloves? I got an inexpensive pair of G-Force gloves this year.

What do you get out of more expensive gloves?

Mindy swears by Sparco Profi's (purchased her a replacement pair last week...dont think I can get away with calling it her valentines gift...).
I have a sparco style knockoff's from Driving Impressions, cost half the price, and I think they're comfortable and a real deal.

I second the Oakley gloves, they're the best. I also use their socks and shoes all of carbon X....

I've been leaning towards the Oakleys based on my experience with my Oakley shoes.

Anybody tried the Ringers (also made of Carbon X)?

I'm on my second pair of G-force gloves. I get the single layer gloves -- thinner gloves equates to better tactile feel through the steering wheel. And all I ask of my gloves are to give me the 1-2 seconds that I may need to reach through a fire for some reason...

I've got a pair of Ringers around my house somewhere. They were one size too big and have disappeared into the abyss known as my basement but they were a nice pair of gloves in construction.

As for which gloves to get.

Carbon-x

Carbon-x

If you see side by side what happens to nomex and carbon-x you'd never go out without wearing carbon-x over important parts of your body (like your hands) This winter I switched all my underwear to carbon-x, my gloves already had some and my next drivers suit will have at least one layer of carbon-x.

Sorry if I sound like a broken record over the carbon-x vs. nomex debate but side by side tests speak for themselves.

+3 (or whatever) on the Oakleys. As Joe mentioned, the stitching is realy nice, the best I have seen. Have used GForce, Sparco and Alpinestars in the past.

What do you get out of more expensive gloves?

-External stitching
-Thin material in the hand for feel
-Suede/alcantara - the good kind that doesn't go shiny too fast - for grip
-Other sticky leather type surface for grip
-Long or short length, longer is better, shorter is easier to pull back to get some air relief for the body
-long lasting material
-FIA approval
-quality and consistent fit, not as much stretching, and better seams

...the usual stuff.

Juan, what I like to do when buying things that need to fit just right like gloves shoes etc. is order 2 pair in different sizes of 3-4 different brands/models and try them on, wear them around the house for an hour and check to see how they feel when you grab the wheel etc. and keep the pair I like most and ship the rest back. It costs a little more but then you have the perfect fit.

JWERION, Sounds like me trying out helmets......

I've been through many brands and models of gloves by now. With the developments and new products its wise to test what's out there.

I used a pair of G-Force gloves last season and they've been great. Maintained a soft palm and have showed no sign of "drying out" despite repeated use in hot conditions. I do recommend trying gloves on before purchasing.

Joe
