I'm still at the point where any video I shoot is for learning purposes. Either for me alone or to have others watch it at and tell me all the stuff I'm screwing up. For that purpose, all I want to hear is the engine (so I can tell what I'm doing with the throttle) and, if I have someone in the right hand seat, I want to hear the coaching (although it is hard to hear voices under the best of circumstances).

Likewise, when someone else posts a video and I watch it to try to learn something from a more experienced driver or learn a new track, a soundtrack is just distracting to me. Again, I want to concentrate on what the driver is doing with the throttle, shifting, etc.

Totally agree.

But, this thread got me to thinking, so I made my first video with background music. I mixed it such that you can still hear some of the actual audio from the car but weighted it toward the background music. I think I chose the perfect song, though. Forgive my driving mistakes - first weekend at the new Eagle's Canyon Raceway.

In this particular video, there was only one song that fit... Traffic Jam by James Taylor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suyqiu2hTxU

Excerpts...

I almost had a heart attack, looking in my rear view mirror.
I saw myself the next car back, looking in the rear view mirror...
'bout to have a heart attack...

Now when I die, I don't want no coffin.
I thought about it all too often...
Just strap in behind the wheel
And bury me in my auto mobile.

Now I used to think that I was cool.
Driving around on fossil fuel
Until I saw what I was doin'
Was driving down the road to ruin.

Damn!

Good one. Don't ya hate that? A stroll down pit lane would've been the thing to do. Is that you in my video?

Steve, I think you caught me in this video, but can't quite tell. Would love to get full res version if you have it.

If I'm correct, I'm in the black 996 cab that you drop in behind as you join the hot track from pit lane at 0:09 in the clip. Then I'm in and out of your camera view until 4:15, at which time I give you a point-by. I think I was preparing to pit, but hey, the video says you caught up to me

Thanks. (BTW, I'll take the song too; good pick!).

Yeah, I remember that as a mercy point by to get me off your tail before you pitted. I also remember having a hard time keeping up with you through the traffic.

I can burn you a CD or something and mail it or pass it off to you at the next DE we're at together. I'll be at TWS in early Feb and then in March. Then at MSR in April and ECR in May.

Thanks a ton. I enjoy taking video from inside the car, but if it would be much better to have someone else mount my camera in THEIR car so I could get another point of view. I did some lead/follow laps with a GT3 owner at the same DE at ECR just so he could get some good instructional video from my camera. I ended up getting something like 5 laps in HD for him. Guess I followed a little too close on the 5th lap, however, as a corner worker gave him a blue flag, heh heh!.

I'll be at TWS in Feb, so that works. PM me with anything I can provide to make it easier; I often bring my laptop anyway.

Dark side of the Moon, backwards

Helter Skelter

I did one Mid-Ohio video with that Eminem song. I can't remember the name of it now.

Carpenters would be pretty satanic.

One of the few where I didn't mind the music, it might have been related to the fact that the video is so good though

I love it!

With my old camera, the sound was so bad, the only choice was to use music. The new camera has good enough sound to include it, but I still kind of like music on top of the engine sound, with the right mix so you can tell what's going on with the throttle.

As far as specific tunes, I'm like Charlie always looking for new stuff. It seems like there is always that one tune that is just right for the particular video. Can't go wrong though with Hendrix or SRV though.

WRT video shot from behind you, it is really helpful. At least as good as watching the view out your front window. I've had it suggested that a video shot looking backwards is pretty good too. May try that next month. ervtx, look forward to visiting with you at TWS in Feb. I'm still enjoying the vid you gave me of you following me.

Ok, I'll add my take on EC with my type of music..... The name of the band is Airbourne. It reminds me of the 80's music I grew up with.

Yes! This song drifted out of my memory for years... now I've got to head over to iTunes to get it! Thanks!
