Default Dependable Auto Transport

Anyone have experience with DAS.

I'm trying to have a car shipped from CT to GA. InterCity told me last week they could pickup it up within a few days after scheduling. Called today and was told wk of Jan 13. WTF? I'm not waiting a month.

Experiences with other shippers?

TIA

If not for the snow I would consider going and getting it.

Used DAS for two cars - both from Los Angeles to DC. Cost was about $550 for open trailer, and delivery was between 2 and 3 weeks. Service overall was what I expected (pretty good) for the price. I saved about $200 cheaper because I dropped the cars off at the DAS location, and picked up at a DAS local terminal as opposed to door to door shipping. They had faster delivery options for more money. Cars had some road grime on them, but were none the worse for wear.

I've had a car shipped through them from SoCal to NYC and was delivered within the promised time frame. No issues.

It snowed in GA?
If they are using open transport, there might be an issue with rocks/salt/sand kicked up and getting on the car?
Do they offer enclosed transport?
Have you tried FedEx Custom Critical? They offer online quotes and pretty reasonable rates/schedule.

I just went through this to ship my 911 from St louis, MO to Portland, OR. Email Fred Koller at Concours Transport, fredkoller@concourstransport.com , he gave me the best price and he does an excellent job. When you see a million dollar Duesenberg, a Ferrari 430, a vintage Jag and a 993 RSR on the same transporter with your car, you know it'll be ok. Super kool guy. In fact, when he could not make the pick up on a previous occassion, he recommended a buddy, Kim Miller, 109 Transport, who cam a few days later, honored the price quoted, and got the car to it's destination in a week with no problems.
Found Intercity to be arrogant and expensive- $ 700.00 more than Fred. Horseless Carriage, Luxury Motor Transport were ridiculously high also. Autobahn transport in Chicago was the next reasonable, but timing was a problem-more than a month on the road with the car.
FedEx/Passport-Passport used to be good, family owned here in St Louis, MO. But, has been bought out by Fed Ex, a company known for poor customer service etc...When i spoke to them, it was not confidence inspiring...I would pick them last, or not at all!
Hope this helps,

Nick

P.S.- though it costs less, I would NEVER put my car on an open trailer, just to many variables. It's scary enough putting it in an enclosed one!

I used DAS for an expidited, top load from Arizona to Dallas and it cost $1100.00. My *** felt a little sore after a 2 week wait and a filthy car.

I would contact either Select One or Reliable Transport. Bith are highly respect enclosed carriers that will commit and deliver! Both have offices in Detroit, Phoenix, and LA

I have used both DAS (twice) and Intercity (once) and you get what you pay for. DAS, while great on the wallet compared to others just wasn't what the Intercity guys do. With that said, I would use DAS again if I was shipping a car that was not one of my Porsche's. Intercity treated the P-Car like it was their own. Car was top front and never moved until it was delivered. I can't imagine how many times my otehr cars moved with DAS.

Whomever you chose, find out if they own the rigs, etc. (like Intercity) or if they just contract out the transport (more risk for problems).

Thanks for all the help.
I contracted DeMoise. They handle transport for PCNA. Unfortunately the car will not get to me before xmas. Sort of gets in the way of my vacation over the holidays but I will get the car in time to have it gone over at my shop prior to driving in mid Jan.
It is not a street car so drving it was never a option. I would go get it as part of a vacation but it is snowing like crazy in CT (Itc) and I don't want to tow in the snow. So, I wait, umpatiently, until the end of the month.

InterCity is the best in our experience and the one we always use to ship our cars around the country. Due to their excellent reputation, their owner/operators are always booked up for a month around the time before and after the Barret-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, which is January 12-20 in '08.
