Alonso back to Renault....
Alonso rejoins Renault
Eurosport - Mon, 10 Dec 13:18:00 2007
Fernando Alonso will return to Renault in 2008 - the team for whom he won two Formula One world titles. He will be partnered by Nelson Piquet Jr.
Alonso left McLaren last month after completing just one year of a three-year contract amid a strained relationship with rookie team-mate Lewis Hamilton and with team boss Ron Dennis.
The Spaniard finished joint second with Hamilton in the 2007 drivers' championship behind Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.
Piquet, whose father and namesake was a triple champion in the 1980s, was test driver this year.
"Fernando and Nelsinho will form one of the most exciting driver line-ups of 2008," said Renault team boss Flavio Briatore.

So is this for 1 year like Alonso wanted it, or 3 like Renault wanted?
If the Renault is way off pace again this year it will be interesting to see how Alonso copes with it.

"Your car is not fast enough for me, good bye".
Interesting, since he claimed to have been the major reason why the McLaren was so fast early on (helping to develop the car), so it should be no problem for him to do the same for the Renault, correct?

He has couple of options but best of them (McLaren) doesn't look good since Flavor Flav & RD aren't exactly the best buddies at the moment...
Toyota wants him too and that's most likely where he will end up.
They've been talking about a multi-year deal there. Not a good thing IMO since Toyota just doesn't seem to get their act together no matter how much money they spend...
Well for sure Renault will do better than this year, last quarter of this season was already showing signs of that sinc ethey started to get the hang of the Bridgestones and were able to fiqure out the aero problems better and better.
How much of course is the question but surely we'll hear the familiar whine soon if things don't work out.
I'm glad the speculation is finally over!

I think we have a pretty good idea how he'll "cope" with it......

This is too bad for Heikki. After a slow start, he really got to grips with the car and I thought he did well enought to merit a 2nd year with Renault. They could have built around him for years to come, but old flames never die. She'll leave Renault again for a man with a bigger wallet.......again....
