Default Winter Tire Storage

I have a set of Hoosier Rains that I need to store over the cold Chicago winter, and am curious to what the recommended protocol is for heated basement storage. Bag or no bag etc.

This is my second tire rack. Built this on Saturday just for my "nice" tires to store over winter in the basement. Have a similar rack in the garage I use during non-winter times. Used to store just in stacks on ground, but this is more space efficient. Having built two, I could make these in about an 1-2 hours now. Very easy. Never gets much below 50* down there and a dehumidifier runs year round. I keep the tires in the bags or totes unless being used.

Total material cost is $39. 9 2x4s and $20 in bolts/washers. Top are 285/225's, middle 225 rain tires, and bottom 255/275's .

I have limited space, so I have stacked them on top of one another. Also have a set of track tires I am trying to get a few more days out of, so i have a stack of 8. Too many to stack??

A recent article in GRM talked about this (written by the Tire Rack contributor). Recommendation was to seal as best as possible in a garbage bag and stack on their sides not more than 4 high. Also, not to use any type of tire dressing. Keep them away from sources of ozone like electric motors.

That said, I've stored Hoosiers for 2 years w/o bags and stacked to the ceiling and they performed fine.
