Having had two motorcycles and a Lincoln Navigator stolen, I'm a firm believer that the only effective measure to take is good insurance. Nothing will stop a pro. Locks and the like just deter the amateur.

Sorry about the loss, I know your pain. Insurance is the best solution then layer physical protection: lojack, locks, alarms, and for those inclined attack dogs

I like the attack dog idea. A thief can't reason with a doberman. However I have a Shih Tzu which looks like a mop, and would lick them to death.

In my area, the only way the police are going to find a stolen trailor, or any wheeled vehicle is if they are speeding. The they wouldn't get in trouble for the theft...only a speeding ticket.

hate fawkin thieves!
That sucks Bill. curious if you had it locked up? (if not forget I asked, bet you are really beating yourself up)
Know 3 people with trailers - 2 of which were stolen in the last 5 years.
I purchased a new tiltbed trailer this year.....
I use seveal means of trailer locking... and never left unlocked while unattended.... EVER!
- Heaviest duty coupler lock I can find. (sorry no pic) fully encloses bulldog hitch
- heavy secondary lock that keeps the bullbog coupler from being able to be closed or opened (also locks the coupler closed when on the truck) (see heavy welded tab to trailer - quick and easy) see pic1
- finally the heaviest cable possible through the wheels. see pic2
- When connected to truck the pin is locking and ball nut is welded to stud.
total cost for lock **** over $200, but I am hopefull I keep the trailer for a long time.
Pics are decieving - lock and cables are HUGE! No doubt a very determined and tooled thief could still get it if they really want it.... usually easier pickings though.

Sorry to hear, Bill.
I park my trailer in some spots I worry about in New Orleans. As you can imagine a lot of stuff gets stolen around there. So I put a tongue lock that goes where the ball would be and also lock down the latch for the ball. In addition to that, I have a wheel boot that is similar to a boot they put on your car if you are illegaly parked. They can be found from trailer supply places and on flea bay for about $80. I run one of those kryptonite cables through the spare and throw holy water on it.
I would suggest to anyone parking their trailer and leaving it to look into the wheel boot!
Hope they catch the farking iceholes that stole your's!

This might be pretty cool. Not good for remote storage but great at the track, outside the hotel, anywhere with people around.

Bill I'm sorry to hear of your trailer loss. Everytime I hear of a car, boat, or trailer being stolen it just make my blood boil. Thanks to Abby for the link to the wheel boot company. They're just down the street from my office. I'll stop by tomorrow and pick one up since I'm going to a open testing weekend Buttonwillow which means it won't just be Porsche racers there....
Point of interest, losing a trailer is one thing but losing your race car and your trailer is life threatening. Insure both and be awfully careful where you leave them....
Point of interest # 2: There haven't been any 996 GT3 Cup tubs available for several years now and every year several more 6-cups are seriously damaged. Straight tubs are at a premium, and I strongly suggest protecting your 6-cup from theft.....
