But you are using the Chase Cam recorder, no? Sounds like the DaVid2 is an all-in-one solution, which is exactly what I want (rather than pay $2K for DaVid and anothe $1500 for the Chase setup) .. I can live with one camera for now!

Yes, the DaVid2 has the integrated recording device. I didn't get any specs on it but it should be out soon along with a few other new things from AIM this spring.

The problem may be that the DaVid2 will not upgrade to multiply cameras. You may have to buy the DaVid3 because of hardware needs.

A hardware upgrade is not a simple as software. Usually requires new system or a clunky add-on module.

Of course, its winter here, so unless I hook the GPS and MXL dash up to my skis, I can't really be sure how well it works. Manual and screen shots look promising, though.
It will be nice to not need the beacon any longer.
yes that is certainly an answer but GPS has a 20 +- foot error built in by GPS so you do the math.. that can be a huge error as to accuracy... IMHO if you are to use data you are trying to hone your skills in very finite ways 40 feet on a straight is huge.. or for that matter any place on a track... think about it..IMO GPS is not a good answer... convenient yes.. but not accurate

GPS accuracy depends on the system you use. I use a Traqmate and it is very easy to see when I have gone too deep in a turn or pulled off-line to pass - the accuracy between the GPS and accelerometers appears to be closer to 2-3 feet.

If possible, you need to turn up the frequency/sampling rate for the GPS. I think the satelites are the final governing factor to what the max sampling rate you can use, however you should be able to get within 1ft if the system is setup and you have a good signal. I'm not sure how different GPS networks limit the sampling rate though.

At 100mph you are travelling 146.7 feet per second, so if you are sampling at 50 times per second (50hz) You'll only hit every 3 feet...so basically if you go a maximum speed of 175mph, and you want a measurement every foot, you need to have a sampling rate of over 250hz (250 per second).

I remember hearing something that civilian GPS is only accurate to a few meters or so and only the government/armed forces have the ability to use GPS to its true accuracy(~6" I believe). Anybody know anything about this?

Understood; thanks.
I am not using the system with that much precision to benefit from more/better data.

GPS was developed in the context of the Cold War. When deployed, the GPS system was subject to Selective Availability, which basically meant that anyone with GPS receiver would see a low resolution signal good for accuracy within 30 meters or so. US and NATO military, certain three letter agencies, and other special cases got the full resolution signal.

All that ended when President Clinton ended Selective Availability on 1 May 2000. From that date, the full system resolution was made available to all GPS receivers.

Is there an online source for learning how to use the aim system well?

I'll ask the question as a separate post.

When you say "how to use" are talking about how to use the system, how to use the software or how to intepret the results?
