Default WTB: Race prepped 993/964

Ready to make the move and have been looking at taking my 993 racing. To that end I am looking at some suspension mods....motons, erp links and of course swapping back out the tranny.

Side note...when I bought the tranny the seller said "You know if you ever go racing, this tranny will bump you up....not good." My reply..."Oh, I'll never go racing."

Before I throw the money at my car, I thought I'd see if anyone was getting ready to get out of thier prepped car/cars in the coming months.

Thanks.

Jamie

Eric,

An old, if not wise, sage uttered those words to me some 4+ years ago. He imparted to me many words of wisdom along with a slightley used set of racing gloves that I wore when winning the bantamweight gold gloves. Thanks for the lead I will track Rob down and see what's up. Brother Doug update...he has since bought another 951 and now has two....he is very much addicted to boost, and considering that's about his only vice, one can't really complain. It would, however, be nice to see him make it through a DE weekend w/o spending half the time under the car.

Joe,

I have been told that the ERP setup for the rear is the way to go. Lots off stuff from Steve Wiener on the 993 board and from a race shop I respect out here. Whichever way I go, I want to do my due dillegance and make sure do all that I should "while I'm in there". Obviusley the PSS9's, in retrospect, were a mistake.

Some things I would be looking for are LWF, Motons or equivilant (if there is such a thing). Would like a car that runs in its original stock class as well.

I know of a very well prepared 993 in my region that I believe is coming for sale. It does not have a cage or likely a kill switch but everything else should be there. I will key him in to this thread.

Jamie
Can I be the first rlist vulture here? Want to do a swap for your short geared tranny?

Oh--and great luck with your future club race career!

Arkadi...please do.

Marc...you would be the second Rennlist vulture here..lol. Chris Walrod expressed some interest as well. When I decide what route I am going to take I will make the tranny available. It is a very strong box with some new bits inside including a gaurds LSD.

Right now trying to accertain whether I should MOD what I have or buy someone elses race car.

I'll keep you posted.

I have my tranny coming down for some non-tranny related repairs later this month...the timing seems fortunate....!

Marc,

This might just work out. FWIW I paid the PO's (of my tranny) shop $1150 to do a full swap. They did it while I waited and installed a LWF for an additional $100. All in all a very good deal, I think.

I have alot to digest. I have had some listers contact me and am also waiting to see what the cost is to me if I do the mods I want myself, in conjustion with a race shop.

Keep in touch.

Jamie -- fwiw, on the erp links, rolled around under a KMR GT2 EVO and only erp type rear link used was camber one.

Full ERP solid link supsension/monoballs/GT2 tilt kit and motons cost me over 10K. It'd be fun to race but wouldn't be competitive in class and I refuse to put in a full roll cage. Plan ahead what class you'd like to run in.

I think the complete rear ERP link setup may not be nec. and I have heard is tough to adjust properly. Might look to just do the bushings and the motons.

I know the 993 is not highly thought of for race purposes. I do love the car and, while I would consider running in E with a 964, want to stay in a 911. I am not a bit 996 fan and a cup car is out of reach at this time. These desires narrow the field to the 993 and the 964.

Your less than a week away from 2008 rule changes with PCA. If you run NASA, keep the trans as it is a "free" item in GT class. Someone elses project would be the best option, but if you do your car run it as a dual class car, prepped in PCA and GT class in NASA. ERP's yes for the front and rear (this will greatly reduce travel and losing alignments. Camber plates front, sways, Motons and upgrade the brakes. Cage, chip. You will run weight to make PCA and likely run very light to run NASA. Your still talking 20K into the car by the time your done where a race prepped car would run 40K plus all ready to roll.
