DM933TT, I noticed that the car was equipped with police type sirens and police type lights in the bumpers. Did you ever use them?
When the scanner picked up the lady on the cell phone reporting your erratic driving, did the thought occur to turn on the lights and or siren to let her know you "were in a hurry"?

U.S. Express
Late October, 1981 U.S. Express took reins over from Brock Yates' Cannonball...
approx 36 participants left Long Island over a 5 hour period racing for shortest elapsed time to Oakland, CA (northern route longer-approx 3000miles) ...
4 best times finished within 30 total minutes of each other....my buddy and i finished 2nd only 13 minutes slower than 1st place....
we ran 38hrs 23 minutes....BTW, unexpected worse snow storm in 60yrs for Oct in Wyoming and Nevada during race...
car was well prepared but we were not prepared, financed, and supported like Roy and Maher.....
we ran again in 1982 and finished 4th....
Cory Wells documentary is about 1983 US Express...
think about getting into a car on saturday nite at 10pm in Long Island with a perspective that your next stop is San Francisco
norm mandell
congrats to Roy & Maher

Norm that's great! Great to hear your post!! I was out with Alex and Cory last night. The New York Motor Club hosted a dinner for us, it was a good time. Steve Stander was there (US Express 82 83, 928Porsche & RX7). It was great sharing stories with him. (Mike Digonis - DeTomaso - couldn't make it).
we didn't know who called us in via cell phone, what you hear on the vid was police dispatch picked up on the police scanner. About the police lights, while there may have been times where they might have been useful to get through some heavy traffic, it was strict policy not to turn any of that stuff on. They are really more part of Alex's Gumball schtick. (and he really limits using them to Europe - where the law doesn't really know what to think).
