You won't have a problem with sound at the ARRC. The only time sound matters is during the 10-12 quiet time on Sunday. There never is any racing going on during that time.

As for the sound at Road Atlanta I was in the 996 GT3 riding along instructing when Christian was blacked flagged. He pulled 91 db with the limit being 90 db. His exhaust was stock looking but it had a very aggressive sound to it. I think the mufflers might have been modified. Anyway the 90 db limit is only on Sunday during 10-12 o'clock as there are a couple of churches located within a mile of the track.

I was instructing a guy this past weekend (not at RA) who had a completely stock 997 Carrera....except for one thing: he had removed the exhaust baffling. It had essentially straight pipes aft of the cats. It sounded like a Cup car inside. It was a real surprise!

they move it around. they have 2 meters that they use and they dont tell you where they are. but here are the usual places:

black flag station on the back straight.
the front straight
right at the beginning of turn 1 (so you can catch the cars popping when they downshift)

I'll add to this 104 db is the limit in the non-quiet hours of operations at the track.

There is a limit at all times with the exception of the weekend of the Petit. During all PCA, SCCA, BMWCCA, NASA or whoever is putting on the race all have limits at 104. Over that and they can black flag you.
