There's a reason Patrick Long is a Porsche factory driver

Hey Mooty,
I have gone to infenion, TH, LS. My best time at LS if i recall correctly was 1:43 with a 220 passanger and stock car as it comes from the factory, nothing removed. Also granted, it was my first time ever driving a stick shift car, and i had about a week to learn heal and toe / likewise only about a handfull of times driving the car ... usually i do karts - since thats the route most pro racers take to get up on top
Here's a video of one session... you can see the whole session if you go to information and goto google.

Thanks for reminding me of that video. Chad posted a high-res 30 minute version of it somewhere right after Patrick drove his car. I was lucky enough to download the whole thing and just watched it again. Great drive! His initial sawing at the wheel greatly subsided after he got accustomed to the car and the tires warmed up.
One of the cool parts was when he waved another of the Plavans by on the front straight so he could tuck in for a few laps and learn the line (according to Patrick). A few laps later, he went by coming out of five.
Awesome video.

I passed Andy Lally at WG this year. Of course he was in a Koni Challenge 997 and I was in a 996 cup. Oh, and he passed me back.
Glen, I'd love to join you if we can make it work.

Well, it seems that some of our young friend's bravado stems from seat time in carts? It seems to me young Patrick enjoyed a bit of success on the world stage in that arena?

It's all good. I think we may have a bit of a language barrier with our friend Enrique, so there may be a slight misunderstanding between what he meant & what we read.

Being speed-challenged as I am, I enjoy studying in-car videos such as this one. It seems that while he drove at the car's limits, he was still easy on the mechanicals. I suspect that in his ALMS and Rolex rides, mechanical failures during his stints are rare, yes?

Jörg is faster most of time, but what impressed me the most when working with Petersen/White lightning is the regularity of these pilots.
They can lap between 4'10 and 4'12 in Le Mans during two stints (around 2 hours) with a 996 GT3 RSR. It is really nice when you do the lap timing and pitboard
Patrick is a really nice guy, Jörg also.

I'm a little late to this party. Here is a link to the longer, and better resolution video.
Patrick is is such a nice guy. He ended up sending me an autographed card for the little guy who missed us racing that weekend.
My favorite part in the video is when he had to keep looking down to see what gear he is in. Also his comments- "Never raced with a 901 gearshift pattern, I have never been in this old of a race car, Hell- I have never raced on this track........" - Yep...and I let him leave the pits.
I plan on writing a article on the whole experience now that it is the off season.
I just needed 1 more gallon of gas and I could of won a race (overall and class) with Patrick Long.
We may have another go at it next year. I told him I would have a bigger fuel cell.

No problem, glad you enjoyed it.
He was really driving... He beat my best time ever by almost a full second (he got a 1:33). And that was on super worn out tires, at track he has never driven, and in a car he does not know. Simply amazing.
Sawing the wheel is how you have to keep these old cars on the track. Skinny tires, and no wings, etc. makes it very exciting. Thats why Patrick had so much fun. It's not "point and shoot" like he stated. You use every reflex you have to stay on top of the car.
I can only wish one day I can jump in a Factory Cup Car and have a go for a few laps. I imagine it would be closer to a Sunday drive from that of these old vintage racers.
