I went custom but my application was different. I needed to get a bigger seat into my car and a custom bracket was just the answer to install the seat safely.

Kim - Thanks. I think I found a good vendor here: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant...p=2&top_cat=60 If I'm not mistaken, they can custom cut 3" diameter aluminum rod. I'll have to drill an offset hole to maximize the load bearing surface.

CWay - Thanks. I saw those but decided to go with the Recaros because I thought the high "arms" would interfere with the seat. The less cutting I have to do, the better.

chrisp - Thank you. Good to know. I'm going to ttry the spacer route for now.

Tony - Thanks for the input. Good thing I'm only putting in a regular Pro Racer and not an XL!

Update: I have the seat in the car with some temporary washer spacers. I had to drill out the aft mounting points of the Recaro side mounts to lower the seat down. In addition to the top of my head hitting the headliner, the upper part of the head halo was rubbing my SFI padding on the roof/door bar (the one that you can easily whack your head on). With the mounts drilled, the seat fits great!!!! Also, when I slide the seat all the way back, I can get in fairly easily and have no need to get a quick release steering hub.

If you buy the brackets from Recaro, the spacers come with the other mounting hardware. (They did with my pole position, but not with the pro racer XL as they were not needed.)

Hey Tom,

I did get the Recaro brackets, but my spacers were a very small diameter and not thick enough.

Bummer. How thick is required (I didn't see it above)? The spacers I got for the PP were about 1/4" thick and an inch or so diameter and were perfect. Given that the seat is curved where they mounted, a wider diameter would have been no benefit.

Hi Tom,

I need a spacer about 3/4" thick. I posted a link to some online vendors who can cut aluminum stock for a reasonable price. I'm thinking of using a 3" diameter aluminum rod and drilling an offset hole to spread the load. Oh, and the Pole Position I bought was used.

I'd be interested to know what the total price comes out to for what you get. I've seen these online shops before but never used one.

I'll keep you posted. It's not that expensive since they're just doing simple chop cuts.

Slightly OT: What do you do if you don't have the Recaro mounting hardware? Does the Sparco mounting hardware work with Recaro seats? I'm about to install my Pole Position seats and have Sparco hardware with Sparco sliders and Momo brackets. Thanks!

My seats worked just fine with the Sparco sliders, but I have Recaro side mounts. I think your Momos will work, but you may have to get creative in getting everything to fit, as I'm doing.

Thanks Mark. What about bolts? Do you know whether the Sparco bolts are compatible with the Recaro seats?

Not sure, but the bolt is a common metric coarse thread for the Recaro.

Are you sure they provided you with the correct brackets? I ask because I got the wrong ones for my new seat (too wide to fit) and confirmed that the part number was wrong with a call. They sent the correct brackets and it fit fine.

I better check with CDOC. Hadn't even thought of that. Thanks, Tom.

Last weekend I saw a pair of Recaro Profi SPA seats installed on a 997 GT3RS...it needed spacers also...about a half inch on each side.
