Default FE mount ?

when i read the rules a while back it said metal to metal.

I plan on mounting my FE to my rollbar using a few radiator clamps around the wall mount - just like was done with my halon one.

the one i saw at the depot had a plastic wall mount. if i do the same, will i pass? I am pretty sure i saw a number of other cars with the same home depot FE.

NO!, plastic will not pass any race tech... (and probably not a DE tech either)

Go to west marine, or other marine store and get their metal mount... (assuming the TINY 2.5# bottle).

if it were me, I would spring for the better quality halon, or newer water based extinguisher from racers wholesale, summit, jegs or other source...

using the dry chem on the motor pretty much requires a tear down...
(corrosive stuff... from what I hear)

fwiw, I have a 5#bottle and a 2 nozzle 10# manual pull system....

NO PLASTIC!

There are also groups that will not allow hose clamps either. Screw/bolt it into whatever it is mounted to. Last I knew, Home Despot had metal brackets for sale seperately. The BEST are the double strap kind. If you've ever investigated, you will see a large amount of movement of the bottle even with a metal bracket if it only has one strap.

I have a 2.5lb halon bottle made by amerex. it has never been used, and is in the recharge zone. i called around, and cannot get more propellent injected. Soooo, my very expensive halon FE is garbage. first time shame on me!!!

i am going to sneak a bag of marshmallows in my car at the next DE just in case it catches fire.

John,
It was mounted to one of your roll bars with two radiator clamps. how much more is your bar with the holes drilled into it for an FE mount?

is the difference between a 5 and 2.5 bottle just size? I believe the 5 is required for races, correct?

Just a tip,
Mount the bottle where you can get to it if your harnesses will not release. That bottle is not there to save your engine. Its there to save YOUR A$$ until a corner worker can get to you with a big bottle to put YOU out. That little FE will not extinguish oil or fuel fires. Its just not big enough. Been there, done that. That bottle is to hose yourself down in case you cant get out of the car and its on fire. Mount it where you can absolutely reach it with you harnesses ON. Ive seen guys at our DE's mount the FE everywhere. I address a poorly placed FE at almost every DE. One even had it mounted to the roll bar behind his head. I have found some roll bar mounts to be awkward to reach belted in. Even the mount for the passnger seat can be a stretch. I have found the rear tranny coupler hatch cover to be a place where i can slide a hand down and rearward and grab it with one hand. Its worth figuring it out before you need to use it and find you cant reach it.

What is a good quick release for the Amerex 2.5 lbs Halitron to mount to the cage?

I like the look of Safecraft but can't figure out which one I need.

Thanks.
