Default does oil ruin a tire?

i spent three days driving on a tire that was getting misted with oil (front right tire - hard to soft line oil leak). i fixed the leak but on the fourth day the grip level at that corner didn't get any better and after 60 min of a 90 min Enduro I pulled out.

is the tire toast?

FWIW, it's a DOT-R.

Some thoughts that come to mind:
1. Is the oil leak truly fixed? Does the right front corner still slide when you switch the oil tire to the left?

2. Did you let the tire sit overnight with oil on it?

I've had intermittent oil spray onto my right rear tire from a leaking oil tank. It was scary, but the grip came back after oil stopped and I drove another 1/2 lap. It seems possible that the oil was absorbed by the hot rubber and degraded its grip. This same line of thought would make it possible to drive off this oiled rubber at some point.

Its probably oil soaked into the rubber and will take a couple of heat cycles to "bake" it ou. Kind of like mold relase agent on a new tire.

Exactly.

Now, if it was brake fluid......

How are you liking the R1's vs other tires?
