The formal Groundbreaking Ceremony of New Jersey Motorsports Park was held on 9/19 on Light Bulb Turn. A crowd of 500 people traveled far and wide to take part in the festivities. To kick off the ceremony a P-47 Thunderbolt flew over the track. WWII fighter pilots trained in this aircraft on the very site of the race track.

Chris Economaki, The Dean of Motorsports Journalists was on the stage when Harvey Siegel announced that the facility's media center and tower are being named for him.

Harvey also announced that Carroll Shelby is being brought in to work on the layout and conceptual design of Thunderbolt Raceway to ensure that the courses will be optimized for speed with a regular "pucker" factor. (Pictured are Carroll, Harvey and Lee).

Rumor has it that the initiation fee of the Driver’s Club will double as of 10/1/08.

Sure. Whoever is interested can send me an email nix935@yahoo.com. October 20th works for me.

I live 9 miles from the track and have free time. When someone is in the area, I'll do my best to be the perfect host.

If you have experience installing a coil over suspension or swapping gears in a 930 transmission, you can even stay for dinner!

Mark,
Please dine at Readys although I will be out of town and won't be able to make the track walk with Nick. Alas, I will be in Woodstock, NY catching up with Levon Helm at his recording studion atachaicent (sp.) to his home.

BTW the little bro had a 9 lb. 14 oz. boy this past Monday. I have a Summit Point onesy all lined up although the baby may already be too large for it.

Nick, it was great meeting you at SP, hope to see you at more Schattenbaum events....WGI 10/1,2? Hopefully I will get a rain check on the track tour.

Looks like Schattenbaum got the first Club Race date! Tentatively on the PCA calendar for September 12-14, 2008!

So, now that I know my Oct weekend schedule, is there really an Oct 20 Millville track walk?

The track is progressing nicely. My 545i can complete a lap in about 2 minutes.

Joe Volpe spoke at our local PCA meeting last week and showed a video of the other, shorter track, Lightning. Video was shot from a pick up truck as it went around the track. Pretty cool. They are making progress. IIRC, Lightning is to open in June and Thunderbolt in August.

Man, I hope everything works throughout the completion of this first stage. If it goes as well as everyone is hoping, it should be a huge success.

Default Getting Laid

Bobby,

I haven't been there this week.

The original plan was to lay asphalt this month. However, it seems that pouring the footers became a higher priority, possibly due to impending colder weather.

I'll take a lap with a camera in the next week or so to keep everyone updated.
