MTBE is probably something you can't even get your hands on nor does it sound like it's a by-product of old or bad fuel (look up MTBE on wikipedia). It's as if they gave you a drum of the stuff. A mislabeling perhaps? Clearly an error of some sort...not a drum of old fuel.
This is almost the exact finding of the forensic engineers. They claim it would be almost impossible for my car or the unattended drums at the track to be vandalized with this chemical. They state it was clearly a blending problem in the production of the fuel.

Convenience store gas for me baby!

"Is MTBE the same as ethanol?"

Structurally not even close except for the same basic components (Carbon, Oxygen and Hydrogen)

MTBE clearly does not work very well in a motor at those concentrations - my sympathies to the owner, that's a tough one to eat.

On top of that it is very toxic at that concentration. Contact will poison more that your motor. Do not treat this as gas, do not let it get on your skin.

You'd think that once VP heard 68% MTBE they would consider this a potential DEP/Hazmat/liability issue and do whatever they could to take care of you.

They potentially shipped a highly toxic chemical in mislabeled drums and in mis-marked carriers accross state lines.

Start picking colors for your GT3 RS now

The bigger problem that I have right now is that I'm storing 6 samples from the drums themselves and another 8 gallons of this crap that was in my gas tank.

Where can I even store this safely?

If I do not keep my "proof" with these samples, I have no case.

Interesting. We had an issue at Laguna Seca last year (or the year before) where a bunch of people's cars had no power and were sputtering all of a sudden. Some gas generators and ATV's were also stalling.

It turned out they all just filled up from one of the pumps at LS.

They drained their fuel and refilled with known good gas and they were working again.

The bad fuel smelled like paint thinner....

Not sure who the supplier was during that time though....

Supposedly samples were taken and they didn't find any problems...right....

Since we're gravedigging anyway, what was the outcome of the legal action?
