The coolest brakes I saw were magnetic induction aluminum things. They are on one of the land speed record cards. It uses a magnetic field to slow so no wear parts. Also has "built in" ABS since the field only works if the discs are spinning and the instant it locks, it stops braking and unlocks so ABS.

It's called "magnetic eddy currents". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddy_current It's the system that is used to dampen the head movement on hard drivers (ever take one apart for the awesome magnets?).
