Kim, any thoughts on why pole qualifying for the mx-5 cup was faster than the fastest BSI ST GAC car? I thought the GAC cars were supposed to be faster? Maybe lack of open track for the GAC boys? Time of day?

We thought that was strange too...actually we were strutting like peacocks...

Todd Buras and Carlos Garcia drove both GAC and MX-5 Cup.

Justin Hall was the regional SM champ a few years ago and Magus Karlsson is an SFR SM racer who races along side of me during the regionals. They know LS as well as Matt Cross and myself.

Had to say. In the race, the GAC guys got faster (1:41.5).

The GAC cars have:
- more power (+30-40hp)
- lighter
- better suspension
- better final drive
- Motec

The only question was if the Hoosiers (not sure what they are) they ran on were as good as our tires...otherwise there should be no reason for it.

We were faster on the test day, in practice, and in qual. They got faster in the race. They also may have been drafting more in the race.

The Hoosiers they use in Grand Am are very hard compared to the DOT's club racer's use.
I bet the tires played a major role.

GAC Hoosiers are harder than the R6's. However, they are designed for endurance racing & last a lot longer w/o greasing up or heat cycling to death quickly.

Congrats, Kim! Very competitive field as it looks like 3 seconds covered the entire entry list!

What hotel are you guys using? I don't know the area.
Were staying right across the street from the track at the Best Western, Inn at the Meadows --We stayed there the last six years -- good price, good hotel. There are several hotels in the area, some just over the river.

As mentioned earlier...0.8 covered 7th-17th in qual....my driving coach was BEGGING me for 3 tenths...so I slowed down by 3 tenths...

Many of those in front of me are champions of SM or MX-5 Cup or Pro SM...Ara won the last race 2 weeks ago....happy to have him behind me...

Chris - I'll see if they have room. Thanks.

Thats the one Dont forget they offer a happy hour service of free beers and chocolate chip cookies until 6pm -- which means I rarely get to partake in as we are always working late at the freakin track..

Mooty: "i met crazy kim in summer of 2002 when he was tooling around in a cherry silver 993, aka silver bullet. now he's a pro racer!!!

congrats man!!!"

Kim lent me a spare tire in 2003 after I put my 914 in the wall, and he's now a Pro racer! What a guy! Where's that autograph!?
