Default DE Rules for Car Build Up

Are there rules as to what kind of suspension, tranny etc you can run? I just realized I made a HUGE mistake and have been building the car for Club Racing and not DEs...oops. Anyways, is there a pdf that states the exact rules for the car?

I'm not building it to race, just to have fun with...please help.

This is the only link I found, btw what is the DB limit for the exhaust?:

DE is no holds barred as long as it meets the safety requirements. The db limit varies from track to track; some have none at all, some only on Sunday during church hours, and some are as low as high 80's all weekend.

Good, mine is just a baffled dump from the turbo. I just found out I can get the setup I want as I'm not too concerned for running on the track for full competition etc and now my options are limitless (almost)!

Reasons why I don't want to instruct Just go drive the car before you make it too fast that instructors don't want to ride with you! For the first couple events it probably doesn't matter if you have a 997 GT3 or a Kia. The MOST important thing is to get out there and drive and get experience. Put it back together and get out there!

I'm going to Skip Barber's school for the first one then I'm going to keep going to schools until I get the principles down etc. I don't want to compromise on the build of the car because I'm not an experienced driver, rather I'll work my way up to the car. I don't want to crash it first time out (actually never!)!

Whatever instructor gets to drive this thing is truly a lucky person! I'm just stoked now because I can get my double A arm suspension and a sequential transmission.

So you're an inexperienced driver that is trying to build a 200+ mph car? (from another thread here).

Yes, but I'm not trying, it will go over 200, well over. I know my limits and stay within them. When I'm ready to drive this thing I will, until then its a project for me to excercise my mind and throw cash at.

Don't get the wrong idea, I am a well funded "kid" as many like to put it but I know and respect my limits. This is my dream project that is becoming a reality.

I grew up in Germany around the Frankfurt area and going to school I was used to my dad driving an average of 140-160 on the highway.

BTW my wife's daily driver (2006 550i) can do 201 mph, so its not anything that crazy. And I can't "put it back together and go racing" as I've been in the Middle East for 4 years now...no tracks out here. I'll be stateside in 6 years and THEN I'll race (@ 30 years old).

Funny, this is counter to my typical advice. Most people screw themselves by not building to a race class. They build a car for DE and then when it is outclassed for racing they are sad.

This will be my daily driver for the few weeks I'm in the US per year. The paint it will have on it will embarass Fcars...I don't want to keep spending 10k every time I need to repaint the front etc.

I'll build a track car for when I get stateside for good. For now this is about realizing a dream, if I ran it on the track it could only go GT1R, and it wouldn't be competitive, so there's no point in trying. I'll build something different for that.

I just want to ensure I don't build it so I can't run it in DE. I don't want to be the fastest guy there, but I do want the nice goodies that Club Racing won't allow me to have. I want the freedom to be able to participate in the "fun" parts of PCA membership.

Hey, easy to forget, but there is one rule for DE's that is not race related: two seats, equal restraints. I know some of the 944 race cars have exhaust going out the passenger area. You may want to check your plumbing because an instructor is not going to sit on a hot pipe.

Haha, the wife would kill me if she didn't have the same setup I do. She's getting the same race gear as me. Its going to have FIA approved carbon fiber GT3 seats and 6 point belts mounted correctly. Side exhaust is going under the car and behind the driver out the rocker panel.

Take any 550i remove the governor and it will do 201. No big suprise here the M5 does 204. That's what I'm talking about - everyone thinks 200mph is so unobtainable but its really not.

You just need a REALLY long stretch of road. And no I haven't taken it up that high, but that's the reported top speed after you take off the governor with the stock gearing. But M5's have actually been on video going that high on stock motor and gearing.

I would be afraid to ride in this car as an instructor of a novice.

If you ever want an instructor to voluntarily ride with you, put a proper exhaust on to keep it quiet. It's all about perception.

Overall it really seems like you're kinda putting the cart before the horse. But it sounds like building this car is your passion, and that's cool. Just be humble and realize that there will be cars with MUCH less hp that will be passing you like you're standing still out on the track. It takes time.
