Brian,

Yes you generate the custom sensor in the RS2 software and then it is transmitted into the gauge. This way you can view, warn, and store the values in the units you want/need to see.

A good example of one we use is fuel level. We read directly off of the stock fuel level sensor but readout directly in gallons and tenths of a gallon.

Gotcha. Thanks.

I want to feed in my existing Wideband O2, and some voltage values for both fuel pumps.

thanks for the info.

Also, does AIM allow overlay of another driver's data so that you can perform a direct comparison between 2 drivers on the same course?

Not sure what the differences are between the 944 gauges and the 928, but I installed the MyChron in my 928. It wasn't a simple plug and play with the exception of the speed sensor, voltage, and tach. The factory oil pressure and water temp sensors, fuel sendor on the 928 are not VDO. I use the AIM system when driving for the RPM's/Shift light functions only and use the data acquisition for oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, cockpit temp, gear info, speed, RPM's, etc.

I have seperate analog oil pressure, oil temp, water temp gauges for at a glance sanity checks.

The system for the price is an incredible deal - I gain as much from replaying the data acquisition as the on-board video.

Brian,

Yes we can compare up to 8 laps from yorself or another drivers AiM data. The data could have been gathered the same day or years ago.

I just wanted to add some more information to this thread for those interested in the AIM MXL.

I was curious about what sensors (if any) that are stock parts on a 944 could be used with the MXL. From what I got out of the convo, none of the stock sensors on a 944 are compatible, howeve the ECU still needs them to remain on the car. So be prepared to spend a few extra bucks on sensors. I'm going to assume that its up to the end user on how to mount these sensors as well.

Just some more things to think about.

I'm using the stock tps OK, the factory oil pressure sender will drive the MXL but only exclusively - you can't run the MXL and the factory gauge off the same sender (ROW '44ts).

If the ecu doesn't like sharing senders, you'll need a seperate one basically.

It is up to the user/ installer to work out how to mount this stuff - most of its fairly simple work requiring basic hand tools and some electrical knowledge - if you can't do it yourself, it doesn't need a DA specialist to install.

Its more about being creative or using those that have gone there before when positioning sensors.

The software is pretty good although I've found the last couple of RS2 releases a bit buggy - and quite frustrating with no bug reporting/ resolution process that I've been able to find.

GeorgeNZ,

The Aimsports USA website (I am still to new to post weblinks) has a Support page and about halfway down is a Technical Support Form that is taken seriously by the AiM corporate folks.

The Italian website also has a Download/Technical Support page with a Technical Support Form inviting anybody to give feedback or ask for help.

AiM is very proactive and would love to hear about any issues found in their products or software!

Yeah, I've run my stock oil pressure gauge in parallel with the AIM system before, but I agree, doesn't work. Too bad the sender is so spendy. (say that 3 times fast!) Then again, for me it's not the most critical channel, and I'm so limited.

Radio Shack, Opto-isolator, and a HS electronics geek and you should be able to share any output in about 15 minutes.

Aaaahhh... my EE geek is obviously over-educated, he didn't figure that out!

in my attempt to verify what sensors i need to install for this AIM dash, I have determined that the stock Oil Pressure sensor outputs resistance so it cannot be easily interfaced to the AIM data logger.

Can anyone comment on the output of the Oil Temperature sensor and the Water Temperature sensor? I've been searching the net for anything related to these two sensors and could not come up with anything.

for the price of the AIM senders for oil and water temp and simple installs, why try to use the factory senders?- use the cooling system bleeder for water and drill and tap the oil drain plug for oil temp

$0.02

I would suggest to use additional sensors for AIM for several reasons.

1. Cleaner install.
2. You have two sources for the very important engine info, engine pressure being the biggy. If you have low oil pressure and your AIM is funky for some reason (with racing anything and everything funky happens at some point) and you have your stock guage hooked up to a big warning light, you now have a great, simple, cheap low pressure light that can save you a lot of money (i.e. if the engine blows).
3. Easy to replace an off the shelf generic sensor than an OEM in many cases.

- my oil warning light came on after the big bang and all the smoke leaked out and was superfluous at that point.

+1 to all 3 points above though.

Thanks All,
I to am planning a AIM install this spring on a 944NA. This thread has been very helpful. I am sure I will be back with some further questions down the road.
