Oil question for new Cup Cars and GT3 RS's
Got into a discussion with some guys yesterday and were wondering what is the reccomended oil (per Porsche) for these 2 cars?
In the Cup cars is there a range of oil weights depending on the temperatures at the track ( 0W-40 or 15W-50 or ???) or is one oil range (0W-40??) good worldwide??

Many teams at Sebring were using M1 0w40 as were the RS Spyders. In the Australian Carrera Cup they had been using Fuchs Silkolene 0w20. I'd be very interested to hear from newer cup car owners on the board. I use Redline 10w40 but mine is an old timer.....

I use M1 0-40 in the Cup, per user manual. But with this oil reformulation issue going on re: ZDDP levels, I may try M1's new 10-40 "High Mileage" which still has the SL rating...thoughts anyone?

Kev, there are many threads and thoughts on this issue. Some info on www.bobistheoilguy.com under the "automotive topics" heading. I have spoke with some in the know and they have said that that there are newer additives that are replacing Zn. The used oil analysis results are impressive so for for newer oils.In my opinion, sticking with an oil that is on Porshces TSB will keep you out of trouble. Maybe Doug Hilary will chime in here or do a search under his name on the 911 and 993 forums.
