Default Wheel offset question for you experts..

I've put this out on the Turbo forums but as many here have multiple sets of wheels I figured someone may have all the info..

I'm looking for a used set of road wheels (new 9/11.5's CCW's/R6's on the way for the track) for my 930, 8" front and 10" rear seem common and will work fine for me. The issue is fitment. I need to know what size spacers to put on..

The 996TT wheels I found are:
Front wheels: 18x8" ET50mm (235/40/18 tires)
Rear wheels: 18x11" ET45mm (295/30/18 tires)

The adapters are available in many sizes on Pelican.. wonder if they come with the lug nuts?

Also, if wheels from another car would fit better i'd like to hear about them also..

Thanks!

Could you post the size/offset for the wheels you're currently using on the 930?

Gary,

Post the stock offset for the 930.
You can run large offset w/spacers though this is not the best way to go.
Also, if you buy 3 piece wheels they can be made to correctly fit most any application.

From a chart here -
http://members.rennlist.com/911pcars/WheelWts.html

Rear are 10.6mm offset with 112mm backspace -
Part #911.361.020.45 - (this is a match to my wheel #)

Fronts are 23.3mm offset and 122mm backspace -
Part #911.361.020.44 - (this # I have to check tomorrow)

From the factory there is a spacer in the rear of about 1.5" thickness.

Thanks

From Bill Verburg on Pelican -

"Ok, the fronts stock were +23.3mm 7s
so the 50 mm 8s will want ~26.7mm spacers ±. There is a little room to play w/ depending on tires and how close to the lip you want them.

The back stock was +10.6mm 8 w/ a 38mm spacer the net o/s was -27.4mm.

The 11 w/o a spacer will want a net o/s ~-4mm. So a 49mm spacer places it about right again ± depending on how close to the lip you want the tire."

I should be good with a 1" (25.4mm) spacer in front and a 2" (50.8mm) spacer in the rear..

Gary, the front 18"x8"ET50 will work with the 1" spacer, as long as you have 1/2" of clearance inside to avoid rubbing with the strut.

The rear doesn't sound good. A 11" wheel installed almost 1" inside the stock 8" center line might definitely hit the wheel well. Check if you have 2.5" from the rear stock wheel inner lip to the closest inner body.

I had 9" fronts and 11.5" rears made up by CCW (John at CCW specified them) and will run 245 and 315 R6's. Guys in the 930 forum are running the TT wheels without issue with the (TT) stock 225/40 and 295/30 tires, they just couldn't remember what size hub adapters they put on.

Thanks NJ-GT!

Thanks NJ-GT!
John was very helpful building me a custom set of 10"/12" 1-piece CCW wheels for my narrow body 996. Perfect fit.

By the way, when buying used 996TT wheels, check for cracks on the back side of the spokes. I bought a set and returned it because of that, then a quick search showed me that it's a common problem.

Good Luck.

Good Luck.
Bought a set from a dealer today with pretty good Michelin PS2's on them... are you sure it's the Porsche OEM wheels that have problems? I have heard the after market stuff is iffy at best and there are a LOT of "Turbo Twists" out there.

Got the spacers from Vertex, now I just have to reassemble my car so I have a place to bolt them to!
