What kind of fuel/mileage you can get out of F-250 Crew Cab w/short bed 6.0 or 6.4? I had a chance to test drive 08' F-350 dually Crew Cab w/6.4. What a nice truck! Drives great. I couldn't belive how quite the new motor is. Pulls nice and smooth. No turbo leg it all. When I asked dealer about fuel/mileage, he sad 8-9 around town. I don't think he knows what he's talking about. I think it should get about 18-20. Any ideas?

Yes, that thing. It's not an issue with the 6.0's, it's a 7.3l problem.

IIRC, that was an "issue" with 7.3L Powerstrokes, I haven't heard of any issues with 6.0 and the new 6.4L.
It is a bitch, like a DME relay....when it fails, you stop. My wife's failed at ~70K on her 00 Excursion (70K = just about getting the motor broken in), Ford replaced it for free.

8-9 around town sounds like the gas engine fuel economy numbers.

I have a 2005 F250 6.0L crew cab, diesel, 4x4. It's a HEAVY beast - between the diesel & 4x4, it's close to 8,000# with toolbox, drover, and full fuel tank. I get 13-14 around town.

I get 15-16 around town..19-21 on the highway. Towing my box trailer (8000# I think) 12-14

My daily drive is 80 miles round trip.. I commute from the burbs to NYC, actually Long Island City.. parking is a pain but I plan for that now.. I dont mind walking a few blocks..

Unfortunately since 2004 diesel owners are getting reamed.. I remember when diesel was 25-50 cents less than premium gas..

I have two racecars, and one tow vehicle/daily driver.. I cant justify buying another vehicle.

Issues with the early 6.0's were plentiful. Stalling, ignition, fuel starvation... The new 6.4 twin turbos, just the issues of getting one since International is only making them now under court order.
Get a "Real Diesel" Cummins! Just went to a 6.7 ltr- 650 lbs ft of torque. However the 5.9 is 610 and pulls 9000 like it's not even there.

I drive my 3/4 ton Yukon XL 8.1 Liter every day.

I drove my last one everyday too - which was the exact same vehicle...

I wish they still made the 8.1 motor. My 3/4 ton Yukon XL only came with the 6.0 motor, as the only option.

Veloce,

Mine is a 2005. Did they stop offering the 8.1 - i have not checked. My lease is up in 7 months. Maybe I will just buy it...

My last 2 Yukon XL 3/4 tons had the 8.1 - I really like it...

Yup, when the body restyle happened (2007), they stopped the 8.1. Rumor has it that it is due to emissions issues. It's a bummer, since it is a far better towing motor than the 3/4 ton 6.0 (which is not bad). The latter has 383 lb/ft torque, whereas the 8.1 has 415, I think.

You should buy yours if you tow really heavy loads, IMO. The 8.1 is a stellar gasoline motor.

I drive a 2001 F250 diesel (7.3L) crew cab 4x4 as a daily commuter (30 miles each way). I average 15 - 16 mpg in traffic/city. Have 100K on the clock and never had a problem (yet). I love the truck and plan to drive it to 300K or so, but if I were shopping right now for a new diesel, I'd be seriously looking at the Dodge trucks. Can't beat Cummins engines.

Stay clear of the early Ford 6.0L. Lots of teething problems. Later 6.0's were ok, from what I've heard. And don't go near the Ford V10 gasser. Unless you want horrible mileage and no resale value at all.

Check out Lingenfelter. 500 hp with gobs of torque from your 6.0L for $15K, and a 3 year warranty!

I was considering it before I went with my wimpy Dodge Cummins Diesel.
