Post 2.7L ......need advise

I was draining my oil catch pan into recyclable containers(it had been sitting for about 10 days) when a speck of gold caught my eye.....then more & more. The engine is out of the car and access to the sump cover is not possible at the moment.
I cut open the oil filter......some copper + tin.
The magnetic drain plug was clean as a whistle....which only means I ain't chewing up the crank. No flecks in the cam covers.

This is a fresh DIY rebuild by yours truely.

I need comments from experienced 911 engine wonks... if for no other reason than to confirm my worst fears. Mr Wiener?

Most likely it is bearings but you can pull out the distributor and check the drive gear, which is bronze. It is a little late to double check to see if you got STD bearings for your (possibly) undersize crank Even if it is "only" the distributor gear;you still be to split the case to fix it.

It goes quicker the second time. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />
