Post Competitiveness in PCA

I have a 1982 SC and thinking about converting it to a track car. In the class they run, are they competitive? I'm thinking STOCK class only.

The 78-83 sc's run in G stock and they consistently win the class, as the 3.0L is very responsive to changing to a more open exhaust.

You must be kidding. A 1982 SC is a "G" stock class car: the best racecar in all of club racing. They are the best looking, the most durable, fastest on a laptime/$ basis, classic-ist-profile Porsche race car you can buy.

Seriously check out laptimes at this year's club races, the fastest G cars are comparable to mid pack C,D,E,F times.

G stock is almost an SC "one design" class. Also, there is a school of thought that a euro SC (basically higher compression pistons) is the hot ticket in F as well: no motronic rev limit...

I finally fulfilled a lifelong ambition to go racing this year, and after lots of study and inquiry, spanning everything from spec Miata to Vintage to BMWCCA and then within PCA, picked G class as the best fit for me. YMMV!

PS, next stop is read the rulebook on the PCA racing website.

Okay Brandon, first, I wasn't kidding. Really! It was a real, honest to goodness question.

Second, I have a pretty solid 1982SC with 124K on the motor, clean, no major issues other than needing to be upgraded from touring to racing suspension and all other mod's for safety. I bought it for all the reasons you stated. It has the BB Triflo exhaust, which just makes me wet. I've read the rule book.

You're a step ahead of me. Congrats on the new racing hobby. Thanks for the help, honestly.

Where might I find representative lap times for Willow Springs for G Stock? I've looked all over and can't find anything.

Iwanna:

Hyperbole aside (can't believe no one picked up the gauntlet on my tirade; maybe they really agree?) the SC _is_ a terrific race car: durable, (relatively) cheap, and really tunable. My experience so far is that at our level of play, mine at least, the driver is contributing a lot more than the hardware. There was an H 911S at LRP that whipped most of the Gs. But honestly if you study the race results of prior years, G class is almost a one-design series. Plus I don't know where you live but if it is west coast, check out the new 911 cup series, it is a spec series tailor-made for an SC.
