Post Shaving Street Tires

I'm running in an upcoming event where I'm limited to a particular street tire (BFG G-Force T/A KD), and I plan on shaving the ones I'm running on to reduce temperatures and clumping.

How much should I shave off?

Can you run Michelin Pilot Cup Sports? FWIW they shave them to 3/32's IIRC.

Jack,

4/32 is the most tread I have seen for shaved tires and should work fine. Some shave lower, but that is not really necessary for street tires. BTW - Your car is looking great - can't wait to see it at OTC.

Greg - Do you have any MPCS' marked with big treadwear numbers? I am sure Jack would pay $$$ for those, but OTC is limited to 140? treadwear for the Touring classes. I wonder if you can retread street tires with R-Compound - DCB trick.

Mark,
MPSC are 80 treadwear. I do like the re-tread idea though.

The re-tread idea has already been specifically forbidden.

I tell ya, they're taking all the fun out of this stuff with rules like that... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

We will leave enough soft rubber snakes that you can 're-tread' on the track.
