Thumbs down Never Satisfied... SC's New F1 Announcer?

OK, I suppose I should just keep my opinions to myself and be glad F1 is back. (because you know what they say about opinions.)

However I've just got to ask, I'm I the only one who was "less than impressed" with "Rick D'Fool's" coverage of the race?

In the pre-race show, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, that he was simply trying to play, “Devil’s Advocate” however he seemed a BIT TOO adamant about his comments that F1 was “boring” since, “there isn’t really any passing” and comparing it to NASCRAP!

Does this guy even know the rules, e.g. his comment about taking the time to replace the steering wheel when the driver gets out of the car. Or how about is wonderful "Play Ball" comment. Maybe I'm just being too sensitive about this, but it didn't seem to show much respect, class OR intelligence.

Either way, he just kept making ridiculous comments the whole time and it was painfully obvious he didn't have a clue.

A wise man once said, "It's better to be thought a fool... then to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

…Perhaps I should heed my own advice.

No Doc, I'm afraid you are right. I was hoping there might be hope, but there was no there there. Fox is likely trying to "bridge the gulf" (ocean? galaxy?) between the NASCAR & F1 demographic. This guy is supposed to build an appetite among the stock car set for F1. As usual, condescending in this manner alienates one group while getting nowhere with the target audience. All I heard was a talking head from the Brent Musberger School of Broadcasting.

Doc, you are right on. Rick "D'Fool" was terrible. I would love to know what was going through David Hobbs' mind when D'Fool was babbling throughout the race. Even old John Watson was better (and he sounded like he was half in the bag by the first pitstops).

I wonder if Fox's next F1 experiment will be to let DW and Benny Parsons call a race. "Looks like the "1" car got a little loose in 3."

It was painful. What kind of fool talks over the interviews or says "and there off" at the beginning after circlevision didn't even show the lights or cut to the sound.

I thought Hobbs was going to explode when he made the comment about the steering wheel. His whole view on passing was worthless. I thought Hobbs argument that when there is a pass it is real and not some slip stream crap that is going to be repassed on the next lap was very logical. I loved Matchets comment about Ferrari and BMW being priemer teams fighting it out.

I also laughed when he made the comment about the fans swarming the track at the end. He obviously has not watched any Grand Prix other than the US because the fans are usually allowed to do this (except I think US).

His analysis of anything happening on the track was always off or screwed up in someway. It was frustrating to listen to and watch. He just couldn't stand to have quiet time to just enjoy the sounds of the cars and watch.

Speaking of *not* speaking, BET you're right, he just couldn't handle the silence!

It was interesting though when they showed (I believe it was) Kimi's in-car camera, it was the first time there was no commentary what so ever. It almost looked as if they just turned off his mic. I wonder if they did and then had a little talk with him.

He did continue to yap it up after that, however it didn’t seem *quite * as much.

I say bring back John Watson!

His comment from Monaco a few years ago went something like this - as they showed a beautiful girl on screen, as they usually do at Monte Carlo, he said "...there she is, someone's daughter today, someone's girlfriend tonight..."

Simply brilliant.

There were many points when I was saying to my TV "will you shut up already", but then I would just count to ten and thank my lucky stars that it was not one of the THREE races that will be shown on ABC this year. After last years ABC's USGP. I was about half dead. I think I'll need a few of these before the next race starts.

Hey, you might have had to listen to Sam Posey. No doubt that Bob Varsha was the best, I wasn't too sure about John Bisagnano though.

And Paul Page is still on the loose! I remember when Chris Economaki used to call the F1 races. Now they would be a pair to draw to. Yikes!

Guys what a let down Speed Channel is. This new guy comparing F1 to NASCAR, please, ......

Bring back Varsha, Derek, bring in Howard Cosell for all I care, no Nascar comparisons. What is with the 24 hour a day Nascar show and then the only interruption is Bowflex.

I'm sorry I changed to DirecTV just for Speedvision.

What I noticed the most is when it was said that it was a killer race not once but twice.

Don't forget the "and they're off" comment at the start of the race. Rick is "Da Fool."

I wonder if you can pick up TSN from Canada. We get to enjoy awesome coverage and commentary from ITV. They use Martin et al for commentary and the local TSN guys just for the before and after commercials. In fact, they barely use the local guys anywhere anymore, it's pretty much the ITV folks the whole way.

When Murray was commentating, I would not have been able to watch F1 without hearing his voice, I'm not sure how you guys do it. I tried to watch Australia on the re-run through Speed Channel and felt sorry for you guys

I've been bombing Speed Channel's feedback website continously with remarks like we see above. I just make up a new email address on Yahoo or Hotmail, etc.

LOL all...!

I've never contributed in ANY thread where I agreed with everyone....

Until now....

This guy thinks everthing is about horsepower, a new word to him, since I understand he was a news anchor somewhere in Arizona previously.

The run up the bent straight at interlagos, he kept saying
(sorry if this causes someone a flashback)
"Nope, Ralf just can't seem to do it (pass MS),
he (slowly) j u s t d o e s n 't h a v e
e n o u g h h o r s e p o w e r......

If it makes you guys feel any better follow Danno's lead, I belong to an F-1 forum at Delphi forums (sorry danno there's already a racer X)
and a topic appeared with the same type of opinions here, so they started a petition....

Cheers
