Thanks again, guys. Looks like a bolt-in roll bar is in my future. Now, I gotta figure out my budget for the year and see if it will be in the NEAR future.

I need some suggestions also--
I'm slowly prepping my car for club racing however it is going to be a VERY long journey. I am going to do some DE's this year and I know (from previous experience) that I need harnesses to keep me from sliding around. Is there a problem with using the factory seats (race seats NOT in the near-future budget) with a bolt-in roll bar and attaching the harnesses to the roll bar?
I don't want to buy a harness guide bar b/c they are expensive, provide no additional safety and I will eventually put in a full cage so it would be a waste of money. Autopower makes kind of a 2 piece cage system where I can buy the roll bar now and install the front section later (more cost effective.)
Any other ideas on installing the harnesses only for the purpose of holding me in place? (For now)

Depends on your region (OR who you're doing the DE's with).
Some regions will not allow the use of harneses without dedicated race seats with holes for the harneses. (CVR)
Other regions will (NNJR).
The debate as to whether harneses without race seats are unsafe can be found elsewhere.
Safety Devices is also a bolt together cage. Not sure if you can purchase the Roll Bar with the saddle brackets on it so that all you'd need to do would be to purchase the front bars.
I'd suggest getting a pair of seats either used or one of the better less expensive seats. I put in a pair of Kirkey Intermeadiates with the velour covers for the price of one Kirkey Road Race seat and they're almost impossible to tell apart. Even with the stock belts you won't be sliding around.

JC,
Dont skimp on saftey... Stock seats with 5 or 6 pt harnesses are not a great idea. I ran this setup for 1/2 a season, the belts tore up my nice leather seats and given the shape of stock seats, could have easily slipped off in an accident. If your only going to do a couple of DE's a year and dont fear getting bit by the track bug, any harness is better than nothing, but to do it right, you should get a race seat with your harness. Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for the suggestions. I know I will need real race seats eventually as my head with helmet almost touches the roof with the stock seats. I'm just trying to get out to the track to re-start my learning "curve." The major problem with race seats is that I'd have to buy 2 of them. My budget is real slim right now with going back to school, getting married, and putting in a pool all before Nov.
In my old car (Toyota MR2) I just drilled through the rear firewall and installed very large washers on the back to mount the shoulder harnesses. Of course I only used the harnesses to hold me in and I used the stock belts for safety.
I guess I'll give it a shot with the roll bar and stock seats and see what happens. (A temporary solution)

JC22,
I would definitley look into getting a harness with a sternum starp of getting an add-on sternum strap when using harness with a stock seat. I used my stock seats for a bit before I got a race seat with a roll bar and felt that there was a chance that they could slip off my shoulders in an impact. I did a quick search and found Crow makes one for about $25.

As Skip suggested, a sternum strap is a wonderful improvement in the basic 5- or 6-point harness design. I am very happy with my model made by Teamtech, which was recommended to me by Greg Fishman based on his use in PCA Club Racing.

Skip, Anir,
I have 5 point harnesses with a harness bar, but would like to add a sternum strap. Do the sternum straps permanently attach to the belts or do they "buckle around" the belts?
If they permanently attach, how so?

Vinny,
They are sewn on. See the pic below and/or <a href="http://www.teamtechmotorsports.com/harness.htm" target="_blank">Teamtech harnesses</a> .

Vinny,
As Greg stated, there are quite a few that are not permanently attached meaning you can easily add them to your existing harness.
Here's the one from OG Racing.
