Default SCCA Mazda Skills Competition MX5 Cup Results

Congrats to Mr. Gilhart for even having the opportunity to compete.

Are they giving the MAZDA drivers the same opportunity next year?

That's what I've heard that they are doing it again

Everything I've heard about Andrew (the guy who won it) is great. Just out of HS and won SM at nationals and then went head to head with two other guys to win an MX-5 Cup car. Very well done.

Also great job by Mazda to really do a lot of work to bring together grassroots (if you consider national SM grassroots anymore) and entry level pro stuff.

I saw that kid drive to the national title this last fall in spec Miata, the class I compete in. I was watching from the fence if that says anything... pretty impressive drive because if you looked at him you wouldn't think racing driver- doesn't look like he hits the gym like Schumacher and the boys... will be interesting to see how he does in the MX-5 cup next year- watch any of those this last year? Those guys define aggressive!!

MX-5 cup was my favorite series to watch last year. There was some crazy poop going on all year, especially at the start of the year before they had a little talk with the drivers. He's going to have a big adjustment to make. That series is part demolition derby.

Here are some shots from the Road America Race.

Judging by how he did in SM he'll be among the front runners is my guess.

You mean this time he went through the kink. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...56195848&hl=en

The Billy Mitchell is totally gone now and it seems as though they are in a holding pattern with much of the tunnel excavated but the temperature is about 15 below

Did they ever establish what happened with that spin? I remember on the broadcast they assumed that he blew a tire.

Broken left rear suspension. You sorta see it in the video but he mentioned on another forum too.

I'd love to hear from Mr. Gilhart regarding any cool insight on the competition. Which "events" were most important, how were the lap time comparisions, etc... I'm sure they had to be on top of each other in terms of lap times.... Any cool stories/suggestions from the judges?
