I was working for an Alfa dealer in Lake Forest (I had a child labor work permit), and Horst Kweck (Horst Quick) and his Ausca team were loosely affiliated with them.
I think he won the U2L championship in 66 or 67.
Sorry Jim, back to the topic at hand...

BTW it is Kwech, with an "h", or at least that is the way he registered....maybe under a trick disguised name, as some did in those days....

I too met Hurley at PDE. I agree, he was serious, unsmiling, and demanding at the track. However, back at the hotel, we had a couple of drinks at the bar, and I was at his table for dinner, and he was most engaging, with great stories of racing over the years. I thought he was terrific, and enjoyed the two days with him immensely. BTW, watching him drive around Barber with a student in the car on the hot laps at the end was something to see, what with a little dice going with Jack Baldwin for bragging rights for the session. The whole thing was great fun, and cool to be a part of.

Same thing here. The wife had him on one side and I was on the other, he paid more attention to her of course. At the track we also had Doc Bundy- who was plain knock down funny all the time but still a serious and helpful instructor. I don't remember him going to dinner though.
