Post Transponder Placement - 964

Hello there PCA Club Racing fans!!

As I am about to embark on my FIRST PCA Club Race adventure, I have what I think is a good question...where do I place my transponder??

A few things here...I have a Toyota Atlantic car, that came with an AMB transponder holder mounted on the rear of the suspension, this works GREAT as I raced it two weekends ago and everything worked "A-okay".

I got ahold of one of the rechargable AMB transponder units and it came with a bracket as well...so I figured I'll mount this on the 911!

I realize that most of you bought your transponders through PCA and have the 12V powered ones that are permanently hard-mounted, and I believe I've seen them mounted up in the front compartment.

But AMB says mount it close to the ground with NO metal obstructing it???

Obviously where I've seen them mounted in some 911s, it works okay...but I don't know if my rechargable unit puts out as strong a signal??

Anyway, where should I mount the holding bracket??

I need to have reasonably simple access as it's required that I get the transponder unit into a charger every couple days of operation.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

They're often zip-tied and/or taped to the rear license plate. Putting them too far under the car would make it a pain to check the light (or remove for re-charging).

I suggest the LF plastic fender liner, on the *inside* pointing down - zippy tied. You might have to notch the plastic a little.

PS: Know where I can get a good set of used fender liners all four parts?

Good one JC, I considered that...also, Jack, that one too!

Think I'll pull back the fender liner and put the cradle in there, guess it's not that hard to pull it back to retrieve the transponder, besides - a full charge lasts 3 days, enough for a race weekend. <img border="0" alt="[burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

JC, dunno where to get the fender liners except to put an ad on the "Wanted" list...Peter with __________ (name slips me at the moment) will likely answer as he's one resourceful S.O.B.!!

Jeff,
Just be aware that if your tire ever rubs you might grind away the transponder.
